Had they maintained the trajectory of Windows Mobile and Windows 7, I'd be rocking out on Zune right now. As it stands, I'm not into digital carnivals so I bailed on the Microsoft ecosystem.

I have a couple of computers that use it. Why? They are free for me via Qualcomm and Qualcomm offers two operating systems. Employees can choose Apple or Computers with Win 11 Pro.
Apple OS is based on the oldest form of File system that Bell labs developed for the Land Line phone system wayyyyyyy back long before they invented the first transistor.
Amazing that my Satellites use this very old OS based as well. Much harder for Hackers to drop in garbage. Early on I started with Apple and only switched when computer of all forms were free for me and I cannot remember How I ended up with Windows.
I have no issues with Win 11. For play I have used other OS that require Command level input and because of my Dyslexia. Fortran is the only language that I do OK with so I can do sum C++ but suck with it EXCEPT NOW with AI I can get high level help and cleaning up my code attempts.

I grew up with UNIX and for the life of me I do not see any diff between it and Linux. Could ask AI to show me the difference and will.
OK So when Linux first came out it was Exactly the same as the 1970's released UNIX - Because anyone is free to modify Linux it has wayyyyy to many uncontrolled variations from UNIX.
UNIX is very tightly controled.

I'll admit, having to pick a techno-feudal overlord, I finally went with Apple. A little less bloat and you can still turn AI off (for now at least). I used to joke about the black turtlenecks and soldered in ram but maybe these guys had a point.

The source code is published and can be modified by anyone (with the requisite knowledge to compile from source)

It would be easy as all fuck to drop in back doors and all kinds of nasty bugs.
Pipes and I am good with Pipes in that code - Damn the shit you could pull off.

Sure, but unless you also release the source code you'd be in violation of the original license and get DMCA'd. And if you did try to submit any malicious code to a project, it would be audited and rejected from inclusion.
