actually, it's kind of interesting. if you compare stats, TC has way more users online at any given moment than is conveyed in activity. the folks page shows 30 for me at the moment, compare to MC's decent activity at the moment with just 11. but the activity is also different. most of the MC folks are reading topics on the front page, while the TC folks are reading older threads. my thread asking for an AnT archive got something like 350 views, while the equivalent thread on MC got just 50. these users may be bots, one of them is in a thread for the anime blood plus which got one reply, saying "anime is for virgin weebs". but then what are the bots there for? what do they seek out that the other illegal clones that are still limping along don't? what makes TC special in that regard?

and if they are real users, honestly it's hard to complain about people lurking moar. with time and distance, i've really come around on lurking moar as a community management tactic.

funny enough i was reading up on lurking and internet communities the other day and with the exception of TC, I pretty much lurk in other places as well. For TC i think because its slowed down and some of the more prominent users either left, got banned or just busy with IRL I figured I can start making social moves here in attempt to engage more. Other places I just lurk to sus out the vibe and if it looks and feels like I have no space to jump in the convo then I just keep lurking til im bored and just leave. there's also the possibility that we really dont have anything worth talking about time to time. which is fine too.

MC is almost impossible anymore. There will be a thread going that's pretty good and someone will come in and start trolling Dave and he will delete the whole fucking post. Just delete it all. They fucked that place up by letting him in there. TC as vocalon said will be around forever. I do most all of my posting here now days. I don't start threads as much as I use to. Maybe I'll do a few more.

I'm pretty sure most of the ones looking at those really old threads are indexing bots. As for why mc doesn't get them, I can't really say for sure but it's possible that they block or filter certain ranges from being counted such as Google IPs. I did something kind of similar with otakutalk to stop indexers from clogging up the db with blank IDs since they reject cookies. Also we're listed on some chanlist site but mc isn't, so that might have something to do with it as well.

I went back to trashchan and zzzchan myself and picked up some offline hobbies too. Internet is in a rough state right now.

You can find out how many bots are reading threads by training humans not to read particular posts. Just post a subject line of "video - well hung black guy pounds white twink into submission" and for the post you write "why do you care? You are GAY". Do posts like that once a day and after a few days most people will ignore it, but the bots won't.
