I always knew that the life expectancy of the United States of America was on the low side, but I didn't realise that they broke it down by state.
Highest equal - California and Hawaii 80.9 years, equal to country position #44 (Isle of Man)
Lowest Mississippi 74.4 years, equal to country position #111 (Kazakhstan)

Mississippi is a poor state and since we're the only industrialized country to refuse health care as a right, most of them rot from malnourishment, stress and poor overall hygiene and die an early death.

interesting how the shortest have all stayed roughly the same for 100 years while some of the current highest actually had lower expectancies in 1900 than the ones in the current shortest ranking. but I'm not at all surprised at any of those states listed in the shortest category.
