Topic: A weird insecurity

+Anonymous A6 months ago #67,710

A weird insecurity I have as a black dude, is I feel like there’s a cultural expectation that certain people of certain races are supposed to be good at certain things. I have no clue how to throw a basketball. I don’t know how basketball works. One of my greatest fears which I have never had to face in this life, praise be to God almighty, thank you Jesus Christ for your mercy upon me, is the fear that someday one of my friends is gonna be like, "Hey bro, wanna go play some ball at the court?" At least I have an excuse for being bad at soccer, I’m American. And football, that’s really a Texas thing somehow. I don’t know how that makes sense but it does. If a black dude can’t throw a football, any normal dude is gonna be like, "Oh yeah it’s because he didn’t play football he’s probably a basketball dude he’s tall he looks like he’s 6 foot." Im 6 foot. Everybody thinks I’m a basketball dude. Every old guy ever. You know there’s some guy in my family who lived to over like a hundred and you know what the first sport he asked me about was? I feel like I am bringing shame to my race due to this inability yet at the same time I have no desire to fix it because I can’t be bothered.

I can hit a baseball though. But that’s the whiteness in me.

I swear rewording that sentence in quotes made me feel like this.

For the record - that’s a real thing.

Don't all insecurities come from comparing ourselves with others? All that matters is doing the best with what you have, thought it still bugs me that every time an actor was cast to play Jimi Hendrix since nobody pronounce the name, ᏥᎻ, and they never looked for an African-American who also had the copper tone, body structure and cheekbone spread of a ᎠᏍᎦᏯ ᎩᎦᎨᏱ (the 'ee' at the end gigageyi is silent). If you're insecure cos of the expectations of others in your personal life, resentment will only kill those aspirations that inspire creativity. What am I saying? That unrealistic expectations often breed premeditated resentments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUPifXX0foU

I just noticed that AI killed search engines since the information it aggregates creates an alternate reality for the end user unless they know specifically what they're searching for. It may be wise to give up on the internet at this point and look for old books for a personal library.

or(and i realise this may seem a bit controversal) you can skim down to the actual results under it. if it bothers you so much, theres likely userscripts and plugins to remove those results.

My point is the 'actual results' are incomplete because of it. It doesn't bother me that it's inaccurate or incomplete since I'm not dependent on them. I was just making a general observation, not any sort of personal attack. Not everybody is looking to be offended by everything.

Have you tried using Bing?

·Anonymous B6 months ago, 7 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #672,171

@previous (D)
For what purpose? Like I said, I don't rely too much on search engines. I couldn't find accurate information anywhere about the torque setting for the bolts on my transmission pan except by a process of elimination of faulty data where others over tightened. Search engines have proved as unreliable as the alternate reality it serves.

The joke is that nobody would use bing even if it was the only available search engine.

Honestly as a CS guy whenever I hear about engineering things that physically exist instead of conceptualized abstractions, my brain just shuts off.

What I'm saying is the proper rotational force at the fulcrum was 13.6 N·m and AI and all search engine resluts claimed it was 13 lbf·ft which is 17.68 N·m, which is why so many forum users ended up with stripped bolts and busted heads.

That’s nice. Good thing engineers aren’t relying on google and search engines otherwise all our rockets would be exploding.

There aren't too many Robert H. Goddards in the world and rockets aren't necessary for survival, but the majority who can barely afford to live can't always afford a mechanic so it would be nice if diy-ers could maintain more efficiently since we have to grow our own food so a ketamine addled narcissist can keep blowing up rockets over the states he intends to destroy. The unnecessary trade war will mean U.S. dependence on immigration after killing off the poor who are already here so your ethnostate plans will never pan out. I find it interesting how all this engineering tech came out of me being bad at basketball.

If those were your only two choices in life at least you don't have to worry about painful bone spurs from basketball in old age, but you can't win 'em all. My experience was which gift offered the best benefit at the time, and not for my own benefit but for the sake of everyone around. It's no fun to have a gift if it can't be shared. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epLq_DAeex4
