So I’m bored and I’m not Russia but I’m just gonna start spitballing ideas for what I’d do with Russia if I were Putin for some reason because I’m bored and I need something to do.
1. I probably wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine. If there are Russian speakers in Ukraine I’d probably try and peruse some kind of economic partnership with Ukraine and have Russian companies manufacture stuff in Ukraine since Ukraine has a much lower GDP per capita so I could make stuff cheaper in Ukraine. But I’d still keep the military manufacturing in Russia.
2. I’d probably invade Belarus and make it a part of Russia. They’re a puppet anyway, why not just take the extra step? It won’t change anything.
3. I’d probably bring communism back. Okay not actually full blown Marxist Leninism, but maybe social democracy but without the democracy. And I only say without the democracy because if I made it a democracy then that would throw this whole scenario I’ve proposed for myself out of wack because with term limits I wouldn’t be able to do all of these things. I value democracy, but it’s just not possible given the conditions of this thought experiment.
4. I’d try annexing Mongolia. I wouldn’t invade, I’d just suggest a referendum. And maybe sanction them if they don’t and ask them to do a second referendum. And if that doesn’t work then I’d invade Mongolia.
5. I’d take back Kazakhstan. Not because I’d really need it, but come on, it makes the country look bigger on a map and it’s super underpopulated which would make it easy to conquer.
6. I’d encourage Chinese immigration to offset the population decline of Russia. I’d build Chinese speaking cities in the middle of Siberia to keep them away from the White Russians so nobody complains about the millions of Chinese speakers flooding the country. I’d put them far away where none of the White Russians would notice, but I’d build high rises for millions of Chinese people inside of Russia and I’d give them all jobs and make them contribute to the economy and stuff.
7. I’m Catholic, but if I was Russian I’d be Orthodox. Now the difference between Catholicism and Orthodoxy is that Catholicism is western and Orthodoxy is eastern (joke - not really they’re actually super different). So I’d probably just keep that basically the same as Putin more or less.
8. Since China likes Russia and Europe doesn’t like Russia, I’d build a new capital city in the far east and encourage White Russians to move there so we can forget about Europe and instead of war mongering, we can just make a bunch of nukes and pretend Europe doesn’t exist, and just be Asians instead.
9. I’d probably change the flag. To what, I don’t know, but the Russian flag just looks like a discount French flag.
