To put it into perspective: Rwanda has a population of 14 million, Africa has 1.37 billion people. If you do the math, that means Rwanda is about 1% of Africa. There are cities in Africa bigger than the country of Rwanda and one of them is in the DRC. (Kinshasa is estimated to have a population of 17 million people.)

Obviously the suffering of people in those places matters, but there are also democratic states in Africa which are more promising in terms of economic development for the near future. War is a reality of the world. It isn’t the only war in Africa. Europe isn’t inherently better in this regard because despite being developed, they’re currently in a war between fellow Europeans right now. In terms of things that affect my life, white people trying to place blacks at the bottom of some stupid racial hierarchy in western countries is probably something that will hinder me as an individual more than a war going on in Africa which will almost certainly probably be won by the country that has 10x the population.

There’s also an obvious difference between the current state of Japan today and countries that were occupied by colonial powers in Africa. Japan does have a relationship with the United States that isn’t comparable with anything in Africa today.

And for the record, just because I criticize an aspect of a country doesn’t mean I don’t like the country or I don’t like the people. I believe everyone has a right to be proud of where their people came from. My opinion about Africa and Asia and Europe isn’t different. Obviously there are horrible things that African and Asian and European countries have done, but there are things about African and Asian and European countries that people from those places and people who's ancestors are from those places have every right to be proud of. It’s not either or. Life isn’t simple.

And I am proud of being white, but there’s a correct way and an incorrect way to be proud of being white. I’m not proud of any of the atrocities white majority nations have committed around the world. But there is still a lot of cultural beauty in Europe to take pride in.
