TinyChan

Topic: How popular was this site at it peak?

+Anonymous A7 months ago #67,262

Wondering how many visits and posts it got in any given day and week back then.

It doesn’t really matter because the owner is just losing money on this. The more traffic they get the more they have to pay. Fundamentally though, this website is an exact clone of MiniChan, they’re both based on open source software, neither owner of either website made any significant changes to the source code, they are both fundamentally unscalable, and the owners don’t have the technical skills to improve upon anything.

Whats the software and why do you say they are unscalable?

I wouldn’t do this because I’m not a bad person who tries to hack things, but I will say that this website was made with php and generally, in php if it’s paired with MySQL, they’re probably using MySQL full text search in the websites search functionality. Full text search uses special characters a little bit differently than SQL normally does so sometimes if you mess around with booleans in the search field, they won’t be escaped and it will change the way the search results work (and you can confirm if they’re using MySQL).

Well, everyone has the same feed. That will always limit how many users a site like this can have before it becomes unusable.

If you were going to make a new textboard what would you change?

The other thing you can also try is if they’re using the LIKE operator, you can get a percent sign to change the search results.

I wouldn’t make a text board. The perfect text board would just become a Reddit clone.

I think the problem is if you want something that millions of people could use, it has to make money in order to pay for the cost of scaling it, everyone has to have their own separate user experience with their own feed that’s curated for them, which would require a recommendation algorithm and accounts, which would destroy anonymity, and then it would need some form of moderation that’s scalable, and then you’ve just reinvented every mainstream social media website ever.

I just wish that this place had more activity to be honest. Same goes for a few other chans I like. Just seems to be a ever dying medium which honeslty saddens me.

It probably had the most visitors when it was hosted on 4chan and mentioned in a 4chan sticky… ( how I found it )

I found this quote from former admin and sex maniac jan : that was a fun time, I remember seeing Folks online approaching 10k”

Tbh I’ve never used 4chan. I don’t like the idea of having to upload an image just to write a post. Also the community there just seems like weirdo white people who are way too into anime who would get bullied IRL for being furries.

I get not wanting to upload a photo to make a thread. As to the other part it was more like that in the past than now though there are still a lot of those types on they're since it was the Weeaboos who did introduce the western world to the concepts of the chans. I wouldn't lump them in with furries though. Furries are widely hated there. I for example browse there along with here, minichan, 4chan, lainchan, Heyuri, Gurochan and sometimes the webring of chans and a few foreign language ones etc and I hate furries with a passion.
