American politicians on both sides have been saying for ages that we need to be the most powerful country in the world or Russia and China will take over. I’m tired of reading random comments on random forums on the internet that I don’t even know if they were written by real people or not justifying it. I’m American, I like America, I’m not a communist or something crazy. I can’t be the only one who thinks this is stupid. Like okay, for example, there are 13 US bases in the UK and 10,000 US troops in the UK. If you do some basic division, that works out to less than a thousand US troops per base. A high school might have a thousand students. If you can imagine 13 high school sized military bases defending a country of almost 70 million people… I can’t be the only one who thinks that’s a bit absurd. Or Japan for example, we have 15 bases in Japan, 55,000 troops. That sounds like a lot, except when you do the math that averages out to less than 4,000 troops per base in a country that has over a hundred million people. If Japan has 124 million people that would mean that every individual US soldier in Japan would be responsible for protecting 2,254 civilians each. In an actual war, there’s no way that would actually matter. We have a lot of bases, but when you do the math, I think it’s clear that we have so many bases and they’re spread so thin, we’re actually the weak link, not the strong link.

But hey, that’s just my opinion! (If I was an enemy of the United States and I wanted to invade Japan, I wouldn’t bother considering the bases as part of my invasion plan. I’d just ignore it like it doesn’t exist send a couple million people in, and just accept the extra casualties.)

Or really I think how it works, is the United States could defend one or two counties at a time, but not a bunch of countries. So I’d probably attack multiple US bases in multiple countries at the same time, to make them send resources and troops and supplies to all the bases, and then invade another random country that I didn’t attack the first time to just make them waste their time.

Like if I was China and I wanted Japan, I’d bomb US bases in the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia, and South Korea, and then I’d wait three weeks, and send a few million people to Japan.

Or better yet, don’t even attack the bases, attack the damn countries. Blow some stuff up in the Philippines to make the Philippines demand the United States send more equipment and soldiers and then just don’t invade the Philippines and invade Japan instead. Then you’re not even at war with America while you’re waiting for them to waste their resources defending the wrong country.
