I got banned from tinychan a couple of times recently. I don’t really care because it’s so easy to get around the ban a "3 week ban" is literally just a 3 second ban as far as I’m concerned. I don’t really get it though, because there are people who post sexual stuff or say the n word, and I wasn’t doing either of those things. So I fail to see exactly how it makes sense to try and get rid of me while not trying to get rid of those other people. And sorry to the person who made this website, but I think they must have low functioning autism. Like the ban gives you some random YouTube video and the background for the website is some anime character and they arbitrarily ban people for no reason that aren’t really doing anything while leaving a bunch of other crap up. It seems pointless and arbitrary… because it is. I’m not mad or anything, I’m just here because I’m bored. But the moderation here is literally the most autistic thing ever. Like why even bother?

It’s actually very easy to get a ban here. All you have to do is do something that triggers the autistic mods. They don’t have a normal concept of what it means for something to be offensive. If you spam the n word or post porn you won’t get banned. If you post a Mao Zedong quote, you might. Either way, I don’t care about appealing bans because I can just change ip addresses so I don’t even care about that whole appeal bs.

I think they have a(n unwritten) rule where you're not supposed to make too many threads. Sometimes I think a public chatroom would work better than an image/textboard because there's no particular topic in mind and many do prefer real-time conversations but I personally find it distracting to keep up with the pace. Being banned for posting porn or saying a slur would take things too far, most mainstream platforms already do that, I find strict rules to be bothersome more than anything, even 4chan has gotten overly-moderated over stupid things as of late.

If you’re going to arbitrarily ban people for nothing, then I think some morally righteous free speech argument is out the window. I don’t find rules bothersome. I’d rather have rules where I at least know what I got banned for than this arbitrary stupidity. Nobody is saying anything on this website that’s worthy of protection in the first place. Nobody’s life is going to be saved because a freaking TinyChan post didn’t get deleted.

If anything, banning people with zero explanation is more authoritarian than stating what people can and can’t post, because at least then there’s some level of transparency. It kinda reminds me of this one time, at my university last semester, some students were protesting, the university called the police on them and arrested like 20 students. Then the university released a statement saying, "Our policy is that we support freedom of expression." It’s like just because you say that doesn’t mean fucking anything! It’s more honest to say you don’t believe in freedom of expression than it is to pretend that you do. If I’m being honest, I do not believe that anyone truly believes in it, and I’m not pretending to be better myself. It just is what it is.

Then how are you supposed to appeal it when they don’t say why? How are you supposed to argue against an accusation if you don’t even know what the accusation is? I’m fine with it if the mods want to arbitrarily ban people, I’m not a libertarian. But why pretend this is some haven for free speech? You can ban whoever you want, just don’t be two faced about it. There is no legal protection for speech on the internet in the US anyway. Nothing we say here is protected by the first amendment because this isn’t a government website.
