I will admit, opening a new jar is pretty satisfying, and cutting into the top layer. I buy the smaller jars so I don't have to dig to the bottom on those gallon sized drums, and I get to open more in the process.

I still have a jar that's passed its 'best used by' date. It's just for when I put a spoonful in my mouth and chase it with some special dark chocolate. Reeses can go to hell. I'm certain this is perfectly normal.

How far past?

There's slack built into that date I'm sure. It can't go from delightful to toxic immediately! Unless HP branches out from printer cartridges to peanut butter or something...

Years ago I knew a Gal that said she put Peanut butter on her Special Parts for her dogs snack.

Yeah, I'm just curious. We had the same jar of dill pickle chips for like 14 years or something. But, they're pickled and in brine so the expiration is more about best flavor and crunch rather than danger of food poisoning in that case.

Just a few months. I'd toss the pickles if I were you. The only thing I'd keep past 14 yrs is the homemade wine but I use potassium metabisulfite to clean bottles and corks and very little potassium sorbate after the final degassing.
