and then the wooden unit I made for the boiler cupboard got wedged in a direction behind switched i literally couldn't get it out of, so I had to disassemble it and snap a shelf in half to get it out
because I didn't know if it was pressing on random things

Hrrmmm. That sounds annoying. Sometimes I miss apartment life - I hate dealing with this kind of stuff too.
Our furnace has a breather tube I have to clean out occasionally because it clogs and trips the safety. Same with our water heater - gets too hot and trips the safety too (but turning the temps down leaves warm water instead of hot).
