Topic: H-1B1 visas
+Anonymous A — 10 months ago #66,586
I find it hilarious that right wing Americans argued that affirmative action was racist because Asians are smarter than blacks and blacks have low IQs. Therefore, it’s racist if there are any blacks in college because it would be better if a Chinese or an Indian took their place. Except, now right wing people are getting pissed off at Elon Musk because Trump ran on the idea of mass deportation but now Elon Musk is saying he wants H-1B1 visas so he can get cheap labor from Indian engineers instead of hiring Americans. And it’s like, y’all didn’t give a shit when it was black people but now that it’s white engineers you see the problem? Fuck this country lol

They should call it "America first made in China."

I have worked with some GREAT Engineers from India and Pakistan.
They have a much better education because older technology is still taught. The old and the new. US Engineers in Universities, get no background or history of the origins of Electronic Science. H-1 B ROCKS.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against Indians or Chinese people. All I’m saying is, if you ran on "America first" you should educate American citizens FIRST or it’s not "America first."

Really the problem I have with the Chinese student thing isn’t Chinese people. I actually like Chinese international students. It’s not that. It’s the idea that we should be educating citizens of a communist country that right wingers consider to be America’s number one enemy over black people who are citizens of the United States. I’m an American citizen. If you’re saying I don’t deserve shit over somebody who’s not a citizen, it’s not "America first" it’s just some bullshit rich people who don’t care about America are saying to get people to support their anti American nonsense. When was the last time you heard Elon Musk say one bad thing about the Chinese government?

US Universities will not match India-Pakistan.
One example. Modern Communications require antennas and not a single US University even mentions such much less the technology.
I have little experience with the Chinese Engineers.
I ended up with a World Class Engineers Gig and my resume did not include knowledge of antennas.
I did include my Ham Radio experience in my Cover Letter and by mistake included the WORD Antennas. Computer reader caught that one WORD - That Word ended up being worth MILLIONS $$$$ Because of Stock Options.

I R a Straight A student
Except in English. Dyslexia, which has been a blessing and a curse.
Blessing, because I also cannot view the 3rd dimension in Engineering drawings. In order to make up for this deficit I had to make models and found errors that would have cost the company its profits.
Bad English has never made me $$$ -

Bottom line is we as a country would fall behind if we cut back on H-1's.
Cell phone anything would drop far behind China.

A lot of Chinese people come to the United States to get their degrees because American universities are better than Chinese universities. If we gave those places in American universities to American citizens, there would be more American citizens capable of doing those jobs that are being taken up by Chinese people on H-1B1 visas, and there would be fewer qualified Chinese citizens.

And okay, hypothetically, let’s imagine, somehow, China was 10 years ahead in terms of smartphone technology compared to America. What were we doing on our smartphones 10 years ago? Sending messages to people, scrolling on social media, watching videos, browsing the internet, taking pictures, and playing games. What are we doing on our smartphones now 10 years later which have significantly more processing power? Sending messages to people, scrolling on social media, watching videos, browsing the internet, taking pictures, and playing games. What will we probably be doing on our phones 10 years in the future? Sending messages to people, scrolling on social media, watching videos, browsing the internet, taking pictures, and playing games.
It’s not actually as big of a deal as people who fear monger about some hypothetical war with China would lead you to believe.

In 2023, Indian & Pakistan nationals, received 72% of all approved H-1B visas, followed by Chinese and Filipino nationals at 12% and 1%, respectively.
Gender
71% of H-1B recipients are men.
The Wireless technology is not limited to just Cell technology - All modern communications. I was sent from California to MIT for a one year course from the inventor of CDMA - Ended up transferring what I learned to Spy in the Sky Satellites. Imaging Radar that can take photos of the inside of your home from space. The future professor ended up owning multi Billion company for Wireless. I refused all offers to work for him for decades. For me Wireless was boring compared to Satellites. Only when he said he was going to launch Satellites did I say YES. I still find Wireless boring compared to Satellites.

Right. I get that it makes foreigners successful, but shouldn’t a country focus on making its own citizens successful first?

Also, for the record, I’m not saying it’s either or. You can have immigrants and also have a government that cares about its own citizens. I’m just saying Elon Musk and Donald Trump are hypocrites who pretend to care about Americans when they really don’t.

Of course. Looked to see if any US University has a course and found just one - Duke.
Seems to me USA is founded based on immigration. It's been good for USA overall. Now a sticky political issue.

And this whole thing about "beating China" I really don’t care. If I owned Tesla, I’d care about American EVs beating Chinese EVs. If I owned Apple I’d care about American smartphones beating Chinese smartphones. That kind of thinking only advantages the 1%. Most black Americans don’t go to college because they’re priced out of it due to a long history of systematic racism and unequal funding of schools. It’s not a black kids fault if they were born into a poor family in a poor black-majority neighborhood and went to bad elementary, middle, and high schools because that’s where they lived, so they didn’t have access to AP or IB or dual enrollment courses so they can’t get into an Ivy League university, and then the university they do get into they can’t go to because their parents don’t make enough money. That isn’t fair. And obviously in India, a country with like 4x the population of America, there will be boat loads of qualified people who could come over here and be successful just by virtue of the size of India. But we shouldn’t leave American citizens behind. And the right uses racial bigotry to justify it.

I should add - The best Chips for Cell are made in Taiwan. USA Designed but manufactured in Taiwan. Taiwan Engineers beat the rest of the world in Class act chip production.
For USA to be successful we need to lean on the rest of our planet. We cannot expect to do it all. WE will never be the important producer of Steel.
We cannot be expected to be self reliant.

I feel like there’s a problem with your thinking. You’re arguing that the United States must work with the rest of the world to remain number one at everything, or else something bad will happen, while also simultaneously pointing out that we aren’t number one at everything and we’re doing fine.

·Anonymous A (OP) — 10 months ago, 2 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[T] [B] #663,406
Anyway, I don’t think you really understand the nuance of the argument I’m making. I’m not right wing or anti immigrating, I’m calling people who are right wing hypocrites for only seeing the hypocrisy of Elon Musk and Donald Trump once it affected them instead of me. You seem to be arguing only for H-1B1 visas being good, which kinda misses the point of my argument.

My Dyslexia does not get in the way of pure math. Given we no longer can be the manufacture to the world and now rely on the rest of the world.
Given if someone else is better at something. Currently it's China against the USA. China of course cheats by stealing our technology.
I have NO answers for how to stop the stealing.

I used to be a Consultant full time. Accepted an offer to interview to design a Sex Robot - One of those "Real Dolls" Owner was an engineer himself.
Interesting project to design a Vagina with servos for lubrication and squeezing. Verbal responsive. I said to self - Is this how I want to add my skills for something like this - Said No thank you. Eventually the company found someone to do this - Product Produced and failed on market to to cost.
Looking at progress on market and not much progress LoL -

Read top to bottom the subject of your topic. I get it. However IF H-1B's are pulled - USA will be the loser.
One more fact. YES H-1B's are paid less - That said when it cums to stock options They get the same as any other employee. Google currently has 3600 H-1's
Google is leading an effort to maintain work authorization for tens of thousands of people whose spouses hold H-1B visas, the high-skilled visa that’s common in the tech industry.
Tech companies that signed onto the amicus brief also include Adobe, Amazon, Apple, Electronic Arts, eBay, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, PayPal, Reddit, StubHub and Twitter.

It's pretty funny seeing the maga cult in civil war.
The billionaire class was always going to get a steep return on their investment at the expense of the average citizen, and now the schismatics have to pretend to care about the American worker. 'Culture War'™℠®© is always a distraction and 'woke', the reddest herring are forms of active measures funded by dark money of the dark enlightenment movement. Stop playing their game and maybe the people will be able to focus. which reminds me
