Topic: Asians and college

+Anonymous A10 months ago #66,465

So I’m a black guy, and I’m studying computer science. Obviously it’s a stereotype, but it’s a very strong stereotype I guess. There’s this stereotype that more Asian Americans go to college because they’re smarter and they study hard, and that black people are just stupid or something. But honestly, being a university student, the thing about Asian students is, I have nothing against them, but when you’re actually physically living life on a college campus, you start to notice that there are a lot of Asian students, but none of them are American. And you also start to notice there are a few black students, but they have African accents.

Then you start to realize what’s actually happening. There are a lot of Asian international students in America and almost no European international students because tuition in Europe is free, so there’s no reason for Europeans to come. And there are more Asians than black people because Africa is poorer than Asia. Except, Asia isn’t as rich as Europe so Asian countries can’t afford to give their citizens free college tuition. Then on top of that you realize the reason why there are not black Americans and the reason why the vast majority of the Asian students have their phones and laptops set to Mandarin is because the United States is racist and it’s hard to get into a good university as an American citizen if you’re an ethnic minority and they can’t charge you more for being an international student.

Honestly, it’s hard to put it in words because there are two things going on. I actually like international students and I often have had better social experiences with people who aren’t American than I’ve had with Americans, so I don’t have anything against them. But at the same time, as a black American, I tried so hard to get into this place to do what I want to do with my life, and then I notice, there’s like nobody else who looks like me here, and there’s a political movement to say that the blacks who are in college don’t deserve to be there. It sorta feels like, this country doesn’t really want blacks to be successful. And honestly, I’ve been to Europe a couple of times. Some people will say Europe is racist some people will say Europe is not racist. The truth is it’s both, Europe isn’t one culture, so it literally just depends where you are. In my experience, it seems like it would be a lot easier to be a black person in say Germany than it is somewhere like Poland or from what I’ve heard somewhere like Italy.

Literally the same politicians in America who won’t shut up about how Chinese people are all communist spies and China is an enemy that we should go to war with are the same people who will say blacks in college is racist because Chinese citizens deserve to be there more than black Americans. It’s like, if the government likes citizens of a nation they consider to be an existential threat to the existence of the United States more than they care about black American citizens, maybe if I want to be successful in life, I shouldn’t be here in this country.

White Americans don’t just have a weird complex about the Chinese though. It’s similar with the Japanese. White Americans will say that Japanese people have such a great culture and they’re so much better than black people. Usually it’s conservatives who say this. But then if you ask the same conservatives who say that about Japan if they think Japan deserved to get nuked in World War Two… there are people who genuinely believe that it’s okay to kill people who did nothing wrong as individuals because they were born Japanese, and these same people say that they like the Japanese MORE than they like black people. So as a black person, why the fuck should I trust these people? I don’t trust them.

If I’m only going to live once, either I will be successful or die trying. I don’t like the whole attitude *some* (not most) black people have that the way to peace is just don’t complain and don’t say anything that hurts white people’s feelings and talk trash about your own race and your own culture. I could go on, but the feeling I’d want to convey as to how I feel about the world, I can’t express with words. It’s a strong feeling though. There’s no doubt or shame or regret or uncertainty in it. It’s very absolute.

@OP
It's not racist to want to make money. Pay up and they'll let all blacks in.

Most US universities are actually non-profits. For profit colleges are scams.

And in case you get it confused: private colleges are not necessary for profit. Most private colleges are also not for profit.

They aren't for profits but they sure behave like it, no?
Anyway until you have free tuition that's what you're going to deal with. American universities still produce a lot of good research so I don't think you should be in a hurry to change this.

That’s literally what the problem is. The United States is corrupt.

I transferred from a private college to a public university. The private university had a tuition of $60,000 / year, and the public university has a tuition of $40,000 / year. The median annual salary in the US is about $60,000 / year. In Germany, there is no tuition.

Also, the private college had a two hundred million dollar endowment and one thousand students.
