Topic: Disney World with controlling Asian family help thread

+Anonymous A11 months ago #66,058

This thread is for people to help me plan my upcoming Disney World trip with my Asian family who is obsessed with controlling almost every aspect of the trip.

Issues/problems include the following:

-not allowing me to ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure because "I will get sick if I ride it during cold weather because it's a water ride"
-not allowing me to ride certain rides (eg. thrill rides) because it's "not to their liking" (too fast, too scary, waste of time, etc)
-forcing me onto rides that they want to go on which are mostly children's rides that I'm not interested in (eg. It's a Small World)
-constantly obsessed with time management/constraints (eg. time limits for everything, don't want to waste time, me riding my rides of choice = a waste of their time)
-Not allowing me to ride attractions solo because I'm an autistic adult (my mom is overprotective)
-Unwilling to compromise (eg. I ride 1-2 rides of their choice, they allow me to ride 1-2 rides of my choice)
-My mom and sister insists that I do everything their way and only their way
-I'm the only person in my party of 3 (consisting of me, my mom, and sister) that like thrill rides
-Not allowing me to book virtual queue for the rides I want to go on (Tiana and Cosmic Rewind)

just to name a few.

Check back frequently as I have lots of questions as I want to make this trip a pleasant one for all and not turn it into 1 big s**tshow with lots of arguing.

Im sorry you have these kinds of parents, although I cannot fully relate as I am not Asian. It is also difficult to give advice when we don't know what has already been tried so please be patient if I don't suggest anything you would consider.
In your family structure, is your mom the "elder", or is there someone with more family authority you could maybe talk to in earnest about this?
please ignore this question if it is insensitive, where is your father? and is he as strict?

My dad isn't coming with us. He wants to but he has to work. If he came with us I would ask him to accompany me on the rides. He is laid back.

I have tried reasoning with her, offering to compromise, explaining how the Florida weather will be nice and how it compares to Vegas (My mom and I went to Vegas last month and it was very warm) and how I will be dry shortly after riding Tiana, and reassuring her that I am an adult and I can handle being on rides solo, but she is having NONE of it >:( >:( >:(

Fact is your penis is almost non existent.

I suppose it is safe to say reasoning with her in any capacity isn't going to happen. I am really sorry to hear that, especially since your dad won't be able to go and seems to sympathize with how suffocating the situation is.
What kind of threats does she make when you "rebel"? How does she retaliate? I assume you can't just do your own thing since she must be holding the tickets or passes (I'm a filthy poor I've never been to any sort of amusement park so I wouldn't know)

on a lighter note, I'm glad you seem to have enjoyed Nevada, I don't know if you've ever had the chance to visit the high desert after a snowfall, its beautiful

I'm female. I have no penis

Yeah, you can NEVER win with Asian parents unless you argue and have a tantrum.

Sometimes she DOES let me have my way, I wish that it will happen more often. Reasoning does work with her sometimes, I just don't know how to do it in this situation.

She threatens to put me in group home if I rebel and retaliates with harshly reprimanding me and guilt tripping me of being grateful and threatens me if I don't do stuff their way I won't get to to travel again in the future. >:( >:( >:(

I can't do my own thing NO MATTER WHERE I go. It's either the family's way or the highway.

Vegas is great. I hated the F1 construction and Hard Rock destroying the Mirage. One day I may visit during snowfall.

Sadly as long as you are being supported or housed some of your family will always feel like you are indebted to the point of not being able to have an opinion (obviously I don't know your exact situation). Its good to know that you can have wins once in a while, but Disney may be "too important" for her to relinquish enough control for you to have enough freedom even in the little ways.

Generally, what wiggle room are you allowed? As much as it sucks to read, you may just need to endure the trip while making the most of what little freedom you are given as minimal as it is. sorry again friend :(

At Disney they go on mostly family rides and some thrill rides, but I find the family rides too tame for me. I prefer thrill rides.

I will go on a few family rides with them, and they will let me ride some thrill rides, but it's mostly 90% family rides and 10% thrill rides. I want 50/50.

Give me ideas on how to convince my family that I won't get sick from

Riding Tiana's Bayou Adventure in December

How to use Lightning Lane and Virtual Queue and how to get my family to buy it????

They are concerned about wasting time. With it I can ride stuff that I want with less wait, saving time.

I will offer to pay for it.

Idk how to use it, though. Can cast members help me????
