Topic: AITA for wanting to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure????

+Anonymous A11 months ago #66,055

We are visiting Disney World for the holidays. I made a list of rides that I want to go on. One ride, Tiana, was rejected because it was a water ride. Apparently my Asian family won’t allow me to go on water rides in winter because “I will get sick from the cold”. I told them that they were being controlling and unreasonable. They told me that they are not being controlling (they are). Who’s right and who’s wrong???

More info: I checked the weather for the week we will be there and it’s supposed to be warm and sunny (high 70s-low 80s). All pools and water parks will be open (we won’t be doing those which is fine) so if other people can do that stuff without getting sick from the cold then I will be fine, too. Also I went to Vegas last month and the temperature was about the same (high 70s-low 80s) and I was sweating. If I ride Tiana I will probably be dry again in no time from the heat.

While I’m not a moderator but please for the love of the board: Stop making multiple threads about your Disney experience.

Then can we compromise and keep it to this thread? I think that’s not unreasonable. Also I already answered your question multiple times try to be yourself and tell them that you’re over 18 and you’re not some kid that could get lost if they are that concerned about you let them have you carry your phone so they can contact you if they’re worried also if you do indeed have autism you could always do a video conference with someone at guest relations to get the disability access service.

Yes. Also they will NOT allow me to be myself no matter what. I tried.

Can you ask Disney employees to modify certain rides for a guest????

Like if they can turn the water off on a water ride for a guest because their family won't let them ride water rides during cold weather

·Anonymous C11 months ago, 12 seconds later, 15 minutes after the original post[T] [B] #659,784

How to compromise with controlling Asian family??????

I want to ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disney World but they are banning me from riding it because it's a water ride.

That's not fair I never get my way >:(

How to get access to front of all lines without a pass????

My family thinks that if I ride solo it will waste their time. If I get front of line access on all rides, it will save them time.

How do I convince my anti horror Asian family to let me ride Haunted Mansion at Disney World?

They won't let me ride by myself >:(

We’re going in early December and they think that if I get wet I will get sick from the cold (typical Asian parent logic) and they Won't let me ride Tiana because of this 🤬🤬🤬🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️How do I get Tiana to turn the water off and run their ride dry????? If it doesn't have water, then they will let me ride it.

·Anonymous C11 months ago, 30 seconds later, 18 minutes after the original post[T] [B] #659,788

I really want to ride Haunted Mansion but my Asian mom is very superstitious and my sister doesn’t want to ride (they don’t like horror) and thinks that the ride will give them nightmares/bad luck. I offered to ride solo and they won’t allow that 🤬🤬🤬

How do I convince them to let me ride???

If parents are preventing an adult child (18 or older) from moving out or living independently, it can tread into legal territory. Here are some potential laws and legal concepts that might apply:

1. False Imprisonment

• If parents physically prevent their adult child from leaving the home—locking doors, taking away transportation, or otherwise restricting freedom—it could qualify as false imprisonment. This is a criminal offense in most jurisdictions.

2. Coercion or Duress

• If parents use threats, manipulation, or other undue pressure to control the adult child’s decisions or prevent them from leaving, it could legally be considered coercion, which can have civil or criminal implications depending on the severity.

3. Abuse or Neglect Laws

• In some extreme cases, controlling behavior might overlap with emotional abuse. Many jurisdictions have laws protecting adults from ongoing abuse, even from family members.

4. Civil Harassment or Restraining Orders

• If a parent harasses, stalks, or continues to interfere with an adult child’s independence (e.g., showing up uninvited, contacting their workplace), the adult child could seek a restraining order for civil harassment.

5. Tenant Rights (if applicable)

• If the adult child is living in the parents’ home, they may have tenant rights depending on local laws. Parents can’t arbitrarily lock them out, confiscate belongings, or otherwise abuse their landlord-like position. Conversely, the child could argue for “constructive eviction” if the home environment becomes intolerable.

6. Guardianship Abuse

• If the parents claim guardianship over their adult child (due to mental incapacity, for example), they must have legal authority. Without such authority, controlling behavior could be challenged as an abuse of assumed power.

7. Anti-Slavery Laws (13th Amendment)

• While often applied to labor, the 13th Amendment also prohibits involuntary servitude. If a parent forces an adult child to perform chores, work, or adhere to restrictive conditions against their will in exchange for living at home, it might invoke this constitutional protection.

8. Right to Privacy and Autonomy

• Courts have ruled that adults have the right to make personal decisions about their lives, including where and how they live, free from undue interference. This stems from constitutional protections like due process and privacy rights.

Practical Steps:

If someone is facing this situation, they could:
• Document Evidence: Keep records of controlling or abusive behavior.
• Seek Legal Advice: A consultation with a family law attorney can clarify rights and next steps.
• Reach Out for Support: Local agencies or shelters may provide resources for adults seeking independence.
• File a Police Report: If physical threats or restrictions are involved, law enforcement may intervene.

While invoking the 13th Amendment is a bold (and attention-grabbing) move, other legal protections exist to address overreach by controlling parents.

I I try any of these they will get VERY furious and disown me!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(

·Anonymous B11 months ago, 4 minutes later, 24 minutes after the original post[T] [B] #659,792

@previous (C)

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. If your parents would disown you for simply trying to gain independence, it might say more about them than about you. That kind of reaction suggests the family dynamic could be toxic to begin with. It almost sounds like a toxic relationship, where one partner threatens to leave or manipulates the other to maintain control.

You deserve autonomy and respect, especially as an adult. Gaining independence isn’t something to be punished for—it’s a natural and healthy part of life. If their anger or threats are holding you back, it might help to focus on building a support system outside of the family, saving money discreetly, or seeking professional advice to plan your next steps.

Remember, a loving family doesn’t try to control you with fear or disownment. You have every right to prioritize your own well-being and independence, even if it’s difficult to navigate right now.

It sounds like you’re in a very controlling and potentially dangerous situation. I know it might feel overwhelming or even impossible, but reaching out for help—whether it’s through the police, a crisis hotline, or a trusted support network—is really important. You have every right to take action to protect yourself, and you don’t need anyone’s ‘permission’ to do so.

If you’re able to post here, it suggests you might have access to a phone or another way to contact emergency services or a trusted resource. I urge you to consider that option, even if it feels scary. You deserve to be safe, and there are people and organizations ready to help. Please take care of yourself—you’re not alone in this.

Maybe B's idea about calling the law on their parents is the better option since their imprisonment will end the cycle of abuse and Disney Asian will finally gain independence.

I just saw an ad for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on TV

I can’t believe that my family tried to ban me from riding it in my upcoming trip because of their bulls*** “the water will make me sick in winter” Asian superstition.

I need to convince them somehow…
