Topic: just give me the damn job or internship
+Anonymous A — 11 months ago #66,020
It's already a hassle having to talk to people trying to form "connections" and "networking". Shit is a pain in the ass. I know bitching ain't gonna do anything and that have to buckle up and lock in. BUT fuck man..I want to give up and I know that's my competitors want and I know everyone's asking for the same thing but give me..Give ME the break. Give me the chance. How tf is I'm supposed to learn the real world skills if I'm not given the chance to work with the company. it doesn't help that among the competition there's also women entering the fucking field man and most of the time they'll get the internship or job.

You know, with that attitude, they won't hire you, right?

Yes I do know. I know you catch more with honey than vinegar. I know I know I know I know. But look man either relate to me or just let me vent and dump my shit. I know nobody gives a fuck and that's cool but I rather write it down this site than to kill myself over frustrations and other bullshit.

You can vent here but don't say that to the boss. That would be extremely rude and also unprofessional.

I cannot imagine a situation where I would need to say that to a hiring manager. If anything they most likely know anyway even if my deposition came cheery or polite. I understand the boss has such a tough job in looking for capable people. but he/she has a job. they're working. All I can do is keeping networking, talking to people, attempting to make connections, build my portfolio, work on my resume over and over and over and over again. attend countless and countless career development events and workshops. "keep on faking it until I can fucking make it." At this point I feel I can learn as much as I can and it still wont land me a decent internship.

Don't look at anyone as a competitor but be your best self.
Chin up.

It's honestly backwards - we're the ones who will be doing the work. We should be the ones checking the facility and coworkers to see if we can tolerate the place. As much as unions used to annoy me, I'm starting to think they're the only thing reasonable in a capitalist system.

Yes, unions are part of maintaining balance in a hybridized society that employs aspects of socialism and capitalism, but these are political/ economic theories that shouldn't be made into practical absolutes. The be all, end all of either/or instead of both/and, s'il vous plaît.
Everyone needs to find their part in the balance to avoid extremes.

My chin can be up. I can walk tall and strong. I can be honest or play pretend and kiss ass. Nothing takes away the fact that there's way too many people and too many competitors and there's never enough work. At some point we all heard the same advice and watched the same tips and tricks and videos on how to land job interviews.
I know one has to overcome this "great filter" but sometimes it's exhausting.
·Anonymous A (OP) — 11 months ago, 4 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[T] [B] #659,552
My solution is gonna I'm finesse and bullshit my way 80% of the time and demonstrate 20% of my actual skill and personality.

I don't watch tips and tricks videos/ 'influencers' aka prostitutes since they have nothing worth my time. The only thing I really ever had to overcome was fear. If you have confidence in yourself you don't have to worry about angling for advantage or 'sucking up'. Learning how to navigate and keep my cool means freedom for me, and I don't act like others or I wouldn't be myself. I learned by observation how to play things but the way I practiced is the way I performed. Now I can jam.
