Topic: 30+ discord servers
+Anonymous A — 1 year ago #65,905
I've joined a few of those discord servers for 30+ yo and it just seems like no different from talking to ppl irl. all conversation go to a dead end or its just filled with awkward small talks. plus most claim they want make friends but its the same type of people: they're always tired and ranting about kids, bills, coworkers, more bills. Like I understand life is hard but I kinda dont care about all that stuff as its boring as fuck and its a mood killer.

Also Its weird on both fronts I get blasted from my age cohort for not understandind or empathic that being "adult" is difficult especially when having kids, etc while at the same time the younger generation seems to be upset that im not accepting my "unc" destiny and just have kids, a wife and have a fuck ton of responsibilities, etc. Like no. No to all of that. I like my freedom, I like my peace. If today I want to goon all night or eat cheetos while watching weeb stuff as a 33 yo. im okay with that. At least all im responsible for myself. I can come and go as I please. Buy lots of junk food and still work a 9-5. The only obligation I have is paying my taxes and my bills for internet and rent. maybe Im hedonistic but fuck it I'd like to be comfortable and mind my business especially in a world where now people try to rope others in their depressive bullshit because they dont want to be alone with their regrets.

Gotta run your circles with single folk, or very specific hobbies that stay on task. As soon as families get involved in friendships, you're lucky if you can borrow them for a couple hours and a beer on Saturday.
Strangely enough, I'm on the other side. I got all these 30/40/50 year old single folk trying to get DnD groups together, video game all day, and other nerd stuff and I just ain't got the time for that (all the boring reasons you listed - I'm a family guy). It's ended up in a lot of hurt feelings but family life is important to me.
Your instincts are correct, if you value goof off time, family life probably isn't for you.

They don't use discord, you can't have their user handle.

right. and the weird part is that I think some folks perhaps deeply misunderstand. Like if you're all for family and want that life. I think hey thats cool that your choice but I dont judge but when Im not reciprocated with the same level of understanding then some of those people end up not getting that's part of why I distance. I hate to do it but hey its done. The reverse is also true so yeah. I cant get pissy if I have a friend who pretty much will never have time to hang out due the work/home life. I know its eats up a lot of time.
I think in regards to your advice Im gonna have to do that. perhaps even get into DnD. It seems like ttrpg is the rage nowadays within that same age groups you've listed.
but yeah who knows maybe someday my tune about the whole thing(prolly not) but for now im sticking with those instincts indeed.
