Might as well forget the dreams of working at a game studio because the amount of layoffs occurring in the 3+ years is enough to not try. However I know if I allow it to filter and diff me out of the competition then some other 20+ yo skibidi bozo is gonna come in and take the spot because they're cool with the senior level bros.

I assume it's like many jobs now: walk in as a chump and get abused for 8 or 9 years. If you're still around (alive, employed, same company), maybe you can get some promotions. I'd hate to walk into any industry with zero experience in this market (rising unemployment and the tech sector in AI mode).

For now. Until another Blizzard situation occurs.

I have friends in this biz. They are happy with what they do and where they work. Apple further south also has lots of openings for game designers.

Well they would have to give promotions otherwise those same chumps with 8-9+ exp under their belt now have something to bargain with. I guess that's why the job boards are always littered with Senior level positions. I remember a while back when this ai business started catching waves and people expressed concerns about job security despite various industries claiming that it wont happen or "its exaggerated ai can't replace workers" and look were we are now.

Hey kudos to them. Its a competitive scene. I'd be happy too if I get paid simply creating models, rigging and texturing, etc then afterwards hang out with some cool folks. I imagine they all share a hearty laugh around the campfire int he upper echelon looking below the common folk knowing that they no longer have to scrap for jobs because a network of friends. (I'm sure that's not remotely the case so dont mind my poor sad man parade)

Well, WB already shut down their multiversus game & I can't imagine how many of their employee will lose their jobs! http://thedirect.com/article/multiversus-game-shutting-down-why

makes sense. the game would've done numbers back in the 90's to the early 2000's. Its a very niche game that was already overshadowed by lots of aa and aaa games.

I’m a CS student but I’ve never wanted to work in game development. Whether a game is fun or not is subjective, and the amount of work that has to be put into making a game be the profit generated doesn’t make sense when the most profitable software on the planet is just flat 2D user interfaces that do something useful.
