Topic: If I let my beard grow out
+Anonymous A — 1.5 year ago #64,984
The hairs grow back razor sharp and it's extremely uncomfortable and itches
What to do about this

I have the same issue. The only fix I have found for it is to shave everyday. I use a razor 3-4 times a week and a Pit Bull skull shaver the other days. But if I skip one day it will itch and get red/rash and pimples. I just can't have a beard.

Moisturizer for sure, that will handle dry skin issues. I like to get an early start and get a little beard balm going even if it's too short to 'do anything' for the style. Or even beard oil, same thing, not a ton, just enough to work with the skin and hair.
But the real answer is power through to week 7 or 8 and things will have calmed down by then.

grab a rough textured shirt or sweater and scrub it against your stummble vigorously for five or so minutes. then do a conditioner/shampoo treatment.

Man it is pure hell for me, especially in the first week. But you're saying start with the beard balm in that first week? Mine only grows out about 1/8 inch in a week. Correct me if I'm wrong but try the balm on that short of whiskers?

I do - if the hipsters aren't lying, it helps get that oil/skin balanced out and keeps the beard whiskers from drying out totally. It's earlier than we need for styling but what the heck, who wants dry and itchy beard?

I might give it a shot. Thanks. Mine are like wire brush when they first start growing. I would rather have a beard than have to shave every day. But I want it kept short.
