Topic: YouTube kinda feels different now

Have you ever noticed that most well-known popular channels have become inactive? Where their last upload was like a few years ago, or more? What happened?
There's also a rise in video essays, commentary channels, podcasts, livestreams, politics, drama, sponsorships, and AI-generated slop. It feels way more mass-produced, commodified, and monotonous as if they no longer put in the effort to make something great, they keep regurgitating old stuff from years ago, it's all about the money now. I don't even know what I'm supposed to watch anymore, it's so boring as if I'm watching full-length commercial ads.

> What happened?
Maybe because they got rich from it, so they didn't feel the need to hustle because they were already comfortable. And many of them saw their earnings and/or popularity drop precipitously because they struggled to adapt their content to the latest trends. So it stopped feeling worth it to them.

I mean that's always going to happen when a platform goes mainstream. Over time it will become more normie oriented to reflect its userbase.

Better get use to the AI shit.
Most of the creators who slowed down uploading their channels are starting other channels in different niches and using AI. But here is the thing. There will be plenty of the old school channels around. They just won't show up top in your suggested videos. You'll just have to search a little harder for them.

YouTube felt better before 2013.

I agree. But it will never go back to that ever again Just to much money involved now.
There use to be a few other places like youtube but not near as big. I don't remember their names but they had a lot of amateurs uploading.

I only know like
Vimeo (seems to be more focused on art projects, films, also liberal),
VidLii (too much gore and edgy Nazi stuff (not as in that I want it gone because there isn't a place for these kinds of videos to stay up, but it makes you look like a weirdo to normies), lacks long-form content),
BitChute &
Rumble (conservative politics),
LiveLeak (now ItemFix but not really a shock site anymore),
Odysee &
Nebula (Odysee is also laggy as hell, and these sites probably exist just because popular content creators realized YouTube is being flooded with garbage and they need to make more money, not worth watching these shills though, hopefully Nebula dies off, not gonna pay for that shit),
Dailymotion &
TokyVideo (full of spam, phishing links),
Niconico (ニコニコ動画, I swear to fucking god I'm gonna lose my shit if that website dies off just because YouTube is more successful, it has a lot of notable old videos).

@651,721 (B)
yep pretty much this. + now that have a all sort of videos and tools to become "Content Creator". The barrier of entry is practically non existent. Postmodern identity politics also ruined the internet with its incessant need to impose "morals" and "values".
seems like normies have won and its only a matter of time before they coming to chan boards and spread their bullshit.

I just remember YouTube as a place where school fights and other shenanigans done at school was posted and went viral. This was back in 2006-2009 where you actually had a friend's list and it was similar to MySpace. I look for videos nearly 20 years old and they're completely lost in the trillions of videos.
