oh, I know bert was real. I don't really have anything to say about BERT Bert, but anon who gets assumed to be Bert. tteh was impersonating me in December and was asked over and over if he was me, and got called me, and never denied it and it was assumed to be me. three months of fake-squeegee anon guy trolling kook. that for sure was tteh, and that's what made me thinks to compare anon talk (lol) and there I found common word use and it jumped off from there. I am trying to offload a bunch of real estate - Spending far far more time inland with Horses and Goats and even playing farmer with a mass of Herbs - Have a Neighbor growing Coffee - I am riding horses much more than Surfing these days. Me and GF take rides over the hills onto a Marine Base as we got passes in exchange for... Marines moved all their heavy shooting miles away so the Horses no longer get spooked. Been just too hot to enjoy the many outdoor festivals but a Greek one is coming up Next Weekend in my home town (Doing major remods on my house there) and may offload it re Bluffs may totally collapse as many have. yep, I sold off my 3rd of the business I owned just before covid, then a lot of stuff happened that was quite wild. but I survived. recently moved to Houston area, pretty chill little lake house, reconnected with a bunch of old friends. they all are married with kids and all. did some peyote with my indian people. then DMT in Dallas, that was -strange. but makes peyote seem like nothing, definitely the way to go if you think you're good at drugs -you are not good at drugs. there's a level of fucked up you get to that's, like, oops, I've done too much, and DMT is like, haha, no, no, you still think in words, and now you're going to hyperspace and concepts are null and what happens after that is basically like Dr.manhattan rebuilding himself from pure willpower if you know the reference. it's exactly like that. but, yeah, not just you, but everything. I don't recommend it if it's just a opportunistic thing.
after that I started painting again, and I've been doing that for the last year. sold a few pieces, a few commissions, getting into the bubble of artists, well trying to kinda, need to take it more seriously, tbh. learned some ai stuff, training models, played with code, not seriously -it'll be a job for ai in the near term. did some clock design stuff. partnered up loosely with a couple of contacts in the clock industry. did a bunch of research, got a hold of some sales figures for the last few years from a big clock maker, and yeah, terribly disappointing. I knew they'd be kinda bad, I still know the market pretty well but covid and whatever -i mean they're fucked, their German parts supplier is still at skeleton crew output, (at least by 2022 figures) and I'll be shocked if they turn it around just based on them being stuck in the 90s, but shoved into drop shipping and online sales and they just don't understand marketing. they just don't do it at all. used to not have to, being the only manufacturer, but now no one hardly thinks of clocks. Gen x, millennials, they don't need them. and they did a shit job of even making them home decor options. anyway, we hoped to capitalize on the old culture in the market slipping, and we did some market research and it was bleak. they're just considered the same way one might consider a plow. or a butter churn. and modernized clocks -some companies are making a go of it in the ultra high end market, the 20k + market, and there's no way I want to compete there. that space is dominated for one by Germany, and the cost to do anything like that as a startup is just stupid, it's a long process to grow into that space. and there's trends to worry about, and initial success could be a fad type thing. some of these companies are 5-10 years old and just now hitting luxury markets and we'll see how long that lasts. they're cool though. but, also, 20k? hmm, oh okay. yeah, I get it, all cnc parts, expensive materials, unique gear trains using planetary gears and just look radically different. and cost of repair and upkeep, god damn, I wouldn't ship a clock with a 3k dollar piece of sapphire crystal glass 2ftx2ft that is also a precision structural piece housing bearings and gears. so, we'll see how https://clockforward.com/indianapolis-speed-twin/ does in the future. oh, okay, $39,800. lol. wow. they got balls, I'll give them that, and I wish them all the best. Meccaniche Orologi Milano, Milan. definitely not your typical American clock. and Milan is the place to be for something like that. just not Houston. or even New York or Beverly Hills. the American luxury clock market barely ever touched stuff like this. we carried Erwin Sattler, only shop that stocked them. AFAIK still, you can buy and wait a few months and get something, but finding them in a shop, go to Munich, Basel, Milan.
we were aiming for the 5k-10k ballpark at best, but the American market is very much a suburban kinda thing. 2,500 - 4k being the average, and lots of under 1k, and a handful up to around 8-10k. not that there aren't 30k clocks, the Howard Miller beacon hill is that ballpark. but, it's also grossly ostentatious. and outdated. beautiful, but not a high velocity kinda product.
so that's kinda backburnerred to see if the economy sorts out a bit. which, yeah, idk. we did have talks with an outfit who would be able to do cases in awesome woods, a machine shop to do prototyping, and, yeah, shrinking market, but repair is kinda hot. so there may be something to do there. and that's where I get bored with ideas, good or no, it's just so god damn unexciting. so that's what a lot of my summer has been. working on a really awesome bad idea that just gets lamer the more realistic it gets. and trying to drum up investors -not my job. I'm a clockmaker and know retail, I'm not a business person first, industry unspecified kind of player. I know one industry, and blah. same with my peeps, we're all just clockmakers. and that's what's fun.
and I'm focusing again on art and trying to build out a studio space that's dope. deciding if Houston is where I stay for a while, or if I bounce somewhere that's not -it's got some charm. I like Galveston a lot more.
