image_2023-02-16_205059398.png"Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" is a Japanese anime series that follows the story of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who use alchemy to try to bring their deceased mother back to life. However, their attempt goes awry, resulting in Alphonse losing his body and Edward losing his arm and leg. In order to restore their bodies, the brothers set out on a quest to find the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful artifact that can bypass the laws of alchemy.

The series is set in a fictional world that is loosely based on Europe during the Industrial Revolution. The world is populated by people who can use alchemy, a scientific art that involves the manipulation of matter to create objects or change the environment. The series explores themes such as the value of human life, the consequences of pursuing power, and the importance of family and friends.

Creator Hiromu Arakawa did extensive research on alchemy principles, drawing from historical texts and teachings to ensure an accurate portrayal of the practice in the series. The show features a wide range of alchemical concepts and symbols, including the transmutation circle, the Law of Equivalent Exchange, and the three basic principles of alchemy: "comprehension," "decomposition," and "recomposition."

Overall, "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" is a thrilling and thought-provoking anime that has captured the hearts of viewers around the world. With its richly detailed world-building, complex characters, and exploration of weighty themes, the show has cemented its place as one of the most beloved and influential anime series of all time.

Is Brotherhood a follow-up series? I knew about FMA in high school and I graduated in '07.

It's a completely stand-alone series that follows the original story from the manga.
It is regarded as the quintessential story.

they did a follow up film to the original series where they fought Hitler or something and then they rebooted it with brotherhood which was confusing for me at the time and I never watched it

It’s not so much a reboot as it is an accurate telling of the manga.
