Actually male guardianship rules (not laws) exist in many Western countries in one situation as far as I know. If a woman wants to get sterilised the medical staff may request a statement that they don't mind from their husband. This can happen (sometimes) for the husband if he gets a vasectomy. I don't think that proof is required if you say you're single, even if you're married, so lying about being single is an option.
