No the ban was not permanent. I remember seeing and doing the math and it would expire right before her 11th birthday and she turned 11 months ago

Use a free VPN to ban evade. There are a few that aren't detected as proxies.

You can also occasionally come across a tor exit node that hasn't been detected yet.

It's important to distinguish whether they're intentionally trying to block tor but some nodes aren't being detected as tor, or they've simply banned a few nodes manually for whatever reason but are not actively seeking to disallow tor.

I think they just use the stopforumspam lists. I think those lists are only supposed to have IPs that have spammed, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just preemptively add all the exit nodes they find.
In principle, I don't think tor exit nodes can be detected server-side alone. You either have to find it yourself through using tor or find it on a list of someone else who has. That's my understanding at least.
