I'm not sure how much demand there is for comic/narrative illustration, I think that's a pretty competitive market. Basic illustration might be possible if you can develop a style which is simple and appealing to young children since children's books are where the majority of actual non-comic illustration is. I can't really think of what commercial illustration might entail, except maybe assembly diagrams and blueprinting, but there's virtually no art to that- just following conventions.
