I had to take a quick Wiki search for history to be accurate so WE are talking about MainFrame computers Not so much desk tops - I was Conceived on Dec 7 1941 a day that goes down in history of course and I DO NOT Celebrate my Birthday as I Celebrate my date of Conception, so this coming Monday you can wish me a Happy Conception Day and you will NOT C me on the Internet next Monday

So 1943 was the first real in use Monster vacuum tube computers and my hands on First computer was the Models from IBM just before the 360 series.
No Tubes just new Transistors and I mean many many transistors
IBM 1620 made in 1959 which was kinda desktop yet my first hands on was one with a Beta 360 Major Main Frame Punch Card Reader ****from IBM that replaced the smaller 1620
Memory was tiny magnetic cores wired by women good with crochet techniques to thread the wires into - Just remarkable and today a child's toy $5 has 100 Billion + the power and memory of what I first used - Thing is it used Fortran programing wayyyyy back then and damn all these many years later I still use or contract out Fortran because it is the TOP choice for super scientific work - Want to keep Satellites up in orbit one uses Fortran - AND Unix to work with the Real Powerhouse Fortran which well too much to explain
Anyway those IBM I got my hands on about 1964 were huge and the Punch Card used to input the Program ended up as a MONSTER of an Issue in a Infamous USA Election where the Wrong Party won the Election because a Punch Card requires firm pressure and IF NOT then you get Hanging Chads that require a lot of people who need to lookC to see the intent of the Voter and the Jug heads in our US Supreme court wood have none of that allowed to see who really won.
I do not use my Sun Solaris work stations for play as as powerful as they are and as powerful as the system is - The hard wired line from my office to the System is on a rather slow Telco system fully digital of course BUT SLOW - One wood NOT want to do images with it - However it is SO Secure and I mean so Totally Secure and it does super well in Earthquakes as it's major self healing - Wipe out a section of the City and it will still keep on chugging along - Ya all call it E1 and we call it T1 lines -
