i have tried heroin and it made me feel good for the first weeks, but then it was just about controlling the withdrawal symptoms and i was feeling bad all the same.

OP unlike yourself I have something to live for. My girlfriend (hopefully eventually wife). However like you I have not been happy for years/decades and decided that if I become single I will end my life. With the exception of my relationship I don't have anything of value in my life, I'm not enjoying things. If I decide to suicide I will do various activities which are relatively high on the risk scale, I'll do that for 12 months then end my life. I've avoided them in the past but if I have less than a year to live, I'm not going to worry too much about having a failure and suffering until my time is up.
