Somebody actually pays his own money to keep this place going. There is a person in this world who wakes up in the morning and goes to work to make money to finance this forum.

It's something that I wonder now and then. Why? Because there were better times and it's hard to let something that you've spent a lot of time and memories on go. Sure, it's disappointing, but turning off a forum must be one of the saddest things to ever happen for some people. How much does it cost? Maybe $100-200 a year. That's not a lot.

Posted by yet another psychotic troll that knows absolutely NOTHING about running a BBS, yet continues posting on the BBS only to try and belittle it and run the little users off to go where? There's nowhere better to go to, or you'd post it. Just give up, worthless troll!

Tinychan could live on for a decade or so, with about one thread a day it's not exactly 'dead'. The quality of posts however, is another thing. It seems to have been taken over by a hoard of men with poor writing skills and obsessive & compulsive mental health issues.

what happened was, tC never recovered its main user base when frank guy decided to for some reason take the site down.

What happened was the mods lost control of the shitposting culture on here. They allowed it to get way out of hand and it drove all the old community to Minichan. Naming no names but 3 people in particular are to blame for the death of this place, 2 mods and 1 user.

Weird how you only feel comfortable here, even though everyone you used to chat with is gone, but you won't go to MC, where many of those people now are.

Cost to run this place is just Chump Change.

I should also point out that what you see here is a fraction of total users who use the server space TC offers. One has more users daily then MC has. Been a while since I have dropped on in there or at the other places available.

Those "users" you're talking about are bots ("users" who don't actually "use" the forum aren't exactly "users" are they?). Which is more desirable in an internet forum, a month of abandoned shitposting threads on the front page or a steady turnover of threads in which an actual community takes part?

·Syntax5.5 years ago, 14 minutes later, 15 hours after the original post[T] [B] #591,343

@previous (A)
Bots?
> I should also point out that what you see here is a fraction of total users who use the server space TC offers.

I have lost count but there are at least 3 Other places to do what one does on TC - A couple do NOT include Image postings. AND One allows Private Messages! And that one allows you to see ALL Active users. They discuss stuff never discussed HERE - Or super rare -

Nor do the others have a front page loaded with weeks of posts. So bottom line IS - What you C here is NOT all there is to see. One is far more chat based which is not the case for this place. And that one - YOU cannot even see what is going on until you pull up that site - So not even the prior 3 minutes but you can see who is active.

·Anonymous A (OP) — 5.5 years ago, 5 minutes later, 15 hours after the original post[T] [B] #591,344

@previous (Syntax)
So now you're arguing that this place is a mostly abandoned board, which was the initial point.

·Syntax5.5 years ago, 6 minutes later, 15 hours after the original post[T] [B] #591,345

@previous (A)
All I am saying is that TC is MORE MORE than this one forum. Actually I have a Anon to thanks for a reminder of a place to drive people NUTS who want Trump to win. I even had to register as a user so I could skip Captcha

So if this place is dead 95% of the tyme it still has value to Me - Frankly I do not have all that much tyme to waste on net anyway.

It literally isn't.

ALL you are telling me is that you have no clue how to view the other places

TC does make it easy and open so even U can see the most active one - The others take some more work to locate them.

Nonsense - You requested a ban - THEY never gave it to you because you broke no rules whatsoever

·Anonymous B5.5 years ago, 2 hours later, 18 hours after the original post[T] [B] #591,350

I would not be suprised if Eco caused people to stop coming here. He hasn't posted in a while, maybe he is taking his medicine but it's going to happen again soon. His ranting, while correct in spelling and punctuation was really annoying. Banning him would reduce the slow loss of readers.

Eco said the cops were coming for him. Probably getting his asshole cleansed daily.

This is a point you have made many times now. And?

@591,327 (B)
> How much does it cost? Maybe $100-200 a year.
If that. It's hosted by cloudflare, for which the hobbyist tier is free. I very much doubt TC is paying for Pro, which is $20 a month. The domain registrar is domains.google.com, and name registration for a .net site typically costs about $20 - $30 a year.

Yikes Cloudflare is not a hosting provider.

It is mostly a Firewall against spammers - Yes for TC Free.

+Anonymous I5.5 years ago, 1 hour later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #591,385

Does tinychan need hosting? What about just running it on a desktop at home?

·Anonymous G5.5 years ago, 3 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #591,386

@previous (I)
Making your desktop a server - Yes possible - SUPER Desktop and Super high speed net connection - Well the multiple ports required not so easy.

But this is tinychan. It's not likely to need a lot of bandwidth.

You forget this is an image board. This one image will hog a computer resources and the need to down load will hog anyone else from connecting.

True but how many simultaneous users are there? How many accesses a day? We don't know but in terms of humans, I'd guess less than 500.

Just a for instance
https://tinychan.net/folks

19 people lurking currently and often 34 at one time - No regular home computer can accommodate that.

·Anonymous H5.5 years ago, 7 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #591,397

@591,376 (F)
Yeah, OK, "hosted" was not the right word. It's a CDN, but the average person doesn't know what that is or what the difference is.

My point was that it's cheaper than one would imagine to run a small website like this.

·Anonymous I5.5 years ago, 3 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #591,398

@591,396 (F)

Thanks, I didn't see that but there seems to be about one user per minute.
