The story still made sense even if there were some continuity errors with the second and third in the set.

Actually I have been involved in making a movie (sound design & editing) so I know what goes into it.
The most important things are to have a good writer and director. Rian Johnson was terrible at both. While JJ Abrams is better and more experienced, he did a piss poor job on episodes 7 & 9.
