Residents all across Southern California received a special surprise this Fourth of July when an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4, originally read as a 6.6 before being downgraded, was felt throughout almost the entirety of SoCal. The epicenter is close to Ridgecrest out in the Mojave Desert. It is currently believed that there was a total of 15 aftershocks that occurred afterward. According to KTLA5, there is a 1 in 20 chance of a bigger earthquake occurring within the next couple of days, but that is just speculation.

Each whole number increase in magnitude is tenfold increase in measured amplitude in terms of energy.
Add One whole number = 31.6 times the amount of energy
Now increase that by just 0.2 = doubling of the energy.
It gets a lot more complex then the simple number because so much depends on DEPTH of the slippage of the fault.
Sure got our attention in Cardiff by the Sea and I could almost see the Liquid of my Margarita moving but alas the crushed Ice kept the liquid from Sloshing over the glass and messing up the rock salt - Breakfast/brunch with Margarita was neighbors Mexican based affair Huevos Ranchero - I was in a lounge chair that started a slow rock n roll back n forth. There was another earthquake that just struck a few moments ago. From what I heard it was a 7.1 but the news reported that it was downgraded to a 6.7 although I did hear 6.9 so I think it's too close to call for right now.
NBC4 also reported that there were actually two earthquakes near the Ridgewood area where the 6.4 quake hit.
One was a 5.0 and then the one mentioned above.
