Natural selection is not a concious process, it is simply who lives long enough to procreate and their genes go on and that's it.

They don't want to believe in an old Earth because that would mean their interpretation of the Bible is false, which would mean all other credibility is lost, thus crumbling their belief system. But the religion as a whole is utter bullshit, so I try not to focus on their fucked up ideologies too hard. It'll never make sense, anyway.
