Topic: Trucker, do truckers support Ching Chong Yang?

+Anonymous A7.3 years ago #52,622

> Yang calls himself a "human-centered capitalist." The modestly wealthy tech entrepreneur sees a rapidly approaching future in which automation takes the jobs of truck drivers, retail workers, fast-food employees, "and on and on through the economy."

> But he's particularly concerned about the widely predicted collapse of the job we call trucker.

> When a million of those blue-collar American men—and they are overwhelmingly men—are suddenly out of work because self-driving trucks, delivery drones, and who knows what else have replaced them, Yang predicts riots at a minimum and, perhaps, social collapse not long afterward as the growing unemployed masses who've been replaced by machines swell to historic numbers.

> “We have five to 10 years before truckers lose their jobs,” Yang told The New York Times, “and all hell breaks loose.”

The automation of trucks is not going to happen any time soon, including as Yang says, "5 to 10 years". There are to many glitches going on with automated cars, as with the one in NYC that failed to "see" a pedestrian, hit, and killed her, and there is no way that they will allow an 80,000 pound vehicle to rumble along the interstate.

Also, even if trucks were to become automated, they will not be ran without a human presence in the cab. Someone has to be in there to control the computer and so forth.

This sounds like a good idea. He has no idea what he is talking about.

As I view it automated Trucks is going to happen real fast. Sure there will be accidents, just as people have accidents. In the long run robot Trucks will have less accidents and kill less people than the people end up with, when they drive trucks.

While someday automated trucks may be the future of trucking, it won't be in my lifetime, I can promise you that.

One thing in your statement that I disagree with, and I see it more often than I like, are accidents. Let's say I see 100 accidents in a 5 day stretch, at least 90 of those accidents are 4 wheelers with no truck involved. I have seen some pretty nasty crashes.

I'm not saying all truckers are safe drivers, but the biggest reason of truck and car crashes, are cars. We cannot slam on our brakes and stop quickly like a car. So cutting in front of us and leaving us no room is a disaster waiting to happen.

Automated trucks are not going to make roads any safer, nor will it save more lives.

P.S. this comment from Yang cracked me up.

> Yang wants every American to earn $1,000 a month, whether they're currently unemployed or currently living off vast inherited wealth, so that no one complains about government handout unfairness, no one falls into poverty, and along the way maybe we avoid the apocalyptic scenarios Yang sees playing out once that unemployed trucker domino falls.

UBI is going to happen especially if the minimum wage doesn't start matching inflation... But I agree that most Truckers are VERY safe drivers, as much as I want to complain about this one driver who kept riding up on the curb and scaring the shit out of me at one of my jobs lol

Some are, some cause fatal wrecks and flee on foot.
