Addiction is a disease, not a reflection of one's character.
Sadly, not everyone sees it that way.
My entire immediate family has unfriended me and blocked my number, simply because I am suffering from a RECOGNIZED MEDICAL CONDITION (namely, addiction).
I also have concurrent mental health challenges (eg. bi-polar disorder).
The only thing I am guilty of is asking for money on a daily basis to fuel my addiction, because I need that daily fix just to feel normal.
It is not just family that discriminates against me because of my condition. Employers refuse to hire a habitual crack user. Landlords won't rent to me. Former friends and colleagues stigmatize me.
People operate under the assumption that crack users are intellectually-challenged or stupid. Nothing could be further from the truth. My IQ is off-the-charts, and I can think and write circles around most of my sober counterparts.
Who gets to decide which drugs are socially- and legally-acceptable? Other people abuse caffeine, sleep aids, pain meds, etc. I don't even drink or smoke weed anymore! Yet because I shell out 20 to 40 bucks a day on something that gives me a euphoric rush, I get branded a degenerate?! Double standards abound!
I will probably cease using crack once I get a new job or apartment, for the sake of starting things on a good note- it's just sad that I had to lose everything and everyone in the 9-10 months I experimented with the drug for.
STOP stigmatizing, ostracizing, judging, shaming, and downright hating on SUFFERING ADDICTS! Especially those who suffer from addiction to more potent substances, like crack-cocaine!

Thanks Merrin, I'm starting to believe in some kind of higher power...either someone's helping me out or I just have a horseshoe up my ass that makes me win on lottery tickets or bails me out right when I'm about to collapse haha.
