The only reason for that is the sanitation issue. Apes wouldn't need machines to perform some of the tasks humans can not perform w/o a machine, due to their incredible strength. Ancient Egyptians accomplished many things, with the help of simple machines only.

Around our period in their history, the aliens destroyed their civilization with a nuclear holocaust. Then they occassionally used nukes again. They only stopped using nukes when they got better weapons, an energy bomb that kills all life in a sphere. Over time and countless wars they nearly destroyed themselvs and so they genetically engineered their emotions away.
All the war and destruction of their planet meant most of their history was lost. So they did an experiment with humans to understand themselves by slowly turning humans into them.
Well that's what I've found from my studies. Might be wrong. But it's a lot more logical than alien invasion meets Gnostic archons. Also not one single civilization millions of years old wants war at all. Any who did would have destroyed themselves fighting each other.

Most advanced species do waste like reptiles and birds. Mammals peeing and lactating is really rare. So is sweating. Though the ones who abduct humans have no gut flora which is rare--though because of this they can only digest meat and if they eat plants, they get a bacteria infection.

Chimps and gorillas do use tools. Also humans have taught them fire. There's videos if you want to search. But they didn't discover fire on their own.
