Topic: In Favor Of 'Affirmative Action' For Irish People

+Eco8.1 years ago #50,657

My ancestors were Irish and, much like African-Americans, faced slavery, poverty, discrimination in the work-force (pic related), oppression, and starvation during the Potato Famine.

Where’s my ‘Affirmative Action’ or reparations for ‘muh historical injustices’, man?

Good except for Surfing my Ocean a Blue for several hours this AM with fighting WINDS making a mess of the few feet of Surf 2day was somewhat of a challenge

Just billed one client for a months worth of work which is rare because usually I bill daily and this client is working on a merger so not so much so sure they will pay on time as they are very busy in worry about Gov position on the merger but such is life

Nice, I'm jelly!
What's an Ocean a Blue, a Yacht?
What do you do for work, Syntax, if you don't mind me asking? Merger's & Acquisitions? You must be ballin'

No yacht no boat - I once lived in a marina and found sailing boring cause when the wind dies well it dies. Suppose if I lived in a place with high winds I might enjoy that more.

Engineer for a living which came from a hobby so being paid to play has been much fun NOT that it is always fun - Currently a consultant in Space based and land based communications - Not in mergers but several companies I consult for are in such situations - And now back to work so I can get it all done and then hit the gym

Sweet deal! So, in layman's terms, you're a 'rocket scientist'? That must get you all the hunnies...
My sister's husband has a PhD in Aerospace Engineering as well, and she's always bragging to everyone about how he be a 'rocket scientist'.
As for sailing, never tried it, but I do enjoy canoeing and kayaking.
Have a good one!

> starvation during the Potato Famine.

The Irish Holocaust was a forced starvation like The Holodomor. The Irish were an earlier version of Lenin's and Stalin's Kulaks.

Ireland grew 6x the amount of food in other crops people needed to survive, plus there was fishing. The Irish at the time were in a sharecropping system where they lived essentially as slaves. They had quotas, their food was taken from them, and if they couldn't make the quotas, they were put into forced labor camps where they worked to death and died soon after. Once the potato crop got diseased, the British government sent 100,000 soldiers to forcibly rob all the food from the Irish. The Potato Famine was basically a smaller scale manufactured famine like those that Stalin and Mao caused.

Only half the potato crop failed, the other half was stolen by English soldiers. Ships carried away food produced by the Irish leaving them to starve. England engineered the holocaust of the Irish and the population dropped from 12 million to about 5 million. While about 1 million emigrated, about 6 million disappeared. This was a holocaust!

Britain has never: erected a monument to (a) commemorate the tragedy, & (b) acknowledge their guilt.
Britain simply blames it all on the Irish.
