Topic: Why Are Turban-Heads Allowed to Carry Knives?
+Eco — 8.2 years ago #50,413
Apparently, the Sikh's are allowed to carry 'kirpans' (small knives) as part of their traditional religious garb.
We're supposed to allow them to walk into a bank strapped in order to respect their religious freedoms...what if my religion permits me to carry a Glock? Would that fly?

From what I know of the Sihk religion, they're supposed to allow you to defend yourself from tyranny. It's basically the same principle as the Second Amendment of the USA. So if the knives aren't sharp, then it defeats the point.
Before there were guns, governments banned people from owning swords. Like in Japan long ago, only Samurai could have swords. And Japan invented jiu jitsu so unarmed villagers could fight armed swordsmen abusing their power.
