I love my work. Started out as a hobby and yes their are times when it is not so much fun but for the most part I wood pay out of my pocket to continue to do the work

Disappear? Of course because at launch sometimes things go wrong and like say about one year ago in Russia a bunch of tiny ones never made it into orbit.
But if you mean working ones that all of a sudden disappear? No - Other than one crashing in2 the other.
Ultimately all get old - wear out - run out of fuel - have parts that do not like the many Cosmic events that hurt the parts inside real bad.
When they get old they are Parked into a safe orbit and people trained on bringing them down BRING them down - That I have never once done. Different skill sets AND needs major help from US Gov to do this safe.
