The nature of sex depends very much on the era and culture in discussion. I doubt that pre pubescent girls were used for sex but they probably were betrothed at a very young age for various reasons. Similarly women can procreate once they begin menstruation and due to the high infinat mortality rate i can expect they were pregnant often and as soon as possible. I havent compeletely read the bible so i cannot say what its stance may have been. Genesis alludes to procreation, exodus dealt with the overall plight of a people, levitucs about rituals etc.

Mohammed (peace be upon him) said anything younger than 9 is too young. He's the first age of consent. People call him a pedo but that was really progressive at his time. Before that, the Talmud said you could have sex with 3-year-olds.
