Topic: Attention: Father Merrin: your opinion please:

As a Christian, what do you make of this:
One of our regular users was a 41 year-old white American male who was once caught asking a 15 year old girl for sexually explicit photos in a chat room. He was in full knowledge of her age, and after being exposed, mounted a campaign of harassment against her on several boards.
At around the same time, he was working at a Catholic girls' school, teaching French classes, and began writing sexual fiction about his students (a claim he denies to this day, despite originally boasting about it on a number of different sites).
In both cases, he was aware of the age of the girls involved, and understood they were all minors in the eyes of the law. He has never, on any occasion, expressed remorse for his actions, preferring to blame his victims for the hostile response he has received from the online community.
Not long afterwards, he fled to China to avoid a $26,000 tax liens which he owes to the government to cover his student loans - on top of money he scammed out of gullible teenagers and stole from various relatives.
In addition to all of this, he once created a fictitious girlfriend by posting photos of a working acquaintance and falsely claimed to have gotten her pregnant (potentially causing problems between this unfortunate woman and her fiance).
Based on what I've told you, do you believe this pedophillic sociopath could ever be reformed? Or should he be considered a threat to society in general and young children in particular? Your views as a Christian on this matter would be appreciated.
Thanks, thanks. Thanks.

If the posting had ended within the last year or two, then I wouldn't disagree with your choice of words, but this is ancient history.

I have clipped your long message and reduced it to the one essential question you've asked. There was no need for you to write out the 'charge sheet' against the person you speak of (other than to be judgmental, which is a sin, and so you should probably take care of your own flaws before you start casting stones at others), because the nature and details of the sin is irrelevent.
This is the Christian position, which you asked for: if a person comes to Christ with a repentant heart, then ALL sins can be forgiven. There is, in Christian theology, only one so-called 'unpardonable sin', that of pride, but that simply means one who doesn't come to Christ seeking absolution.
So yes, the person you have described can be forgiven (you asked if he or she can be "reformed", but that's not a theological matter, and I'm not sure why you chose that word. I suppose it's possible you don't fully understand what the words you use mean).
Have a blessed day.

Actually, according to the New Testament, there's only one unforgivable sin, and it isn't pride. You seem surprisingly ignorant for someone who claims to be a christian.
> you asked if he or she* can be "reformed", but that's not a theological matter, and I'm not sure why you chose that word.
If this sick fuck pedophile can't be reformed, he obviously can't be forgiven either. Thanks, thanks.
*PS: It was stated very clearly in the OP that we're talking about a 41 year-old white American male. You really are an ignorant twat, aren't you? +Anonymous D — 8.6 years ago, 22 minutes later, 20 hours after the original post[T] [B] #534,778

Ok, so can a sociopath be reformed? Yes, of course. That's what the various psycho-analysis fields aim to do. Once again, I'm not sure why you're using that word ("reformed"), and I gave you a chance to rephrase it, but you're adament that's the word you want, so fair enough. To finally stop your whining, child-like repetition of your question ("can he be reformed!! Tell me, can he be reformed!!!"), the answer is: in theory, yes, a pedophiliac sociopath can be reformed.
Your second question: "Or should he be considered a threat to society?". Your use of the word "Or" is redundant, because it assumes a negative answer to your first question. To make it easy for you to understand: if he has been reformed, then he is by definition not a threat. If he hasn't been, then he is. Is that simple enough for you?
