Topic: I had jury duty today.
+Anonymous A — 8.8 years ago #48,785
Being an excitable autist I was hoping for a felony case and the opportunity to present jury nullification to my fellow jurors, but alas it wasn't meant to be. The courthouse had the highest juror selection response ever for that county and I got to go home after a cup of bad coffee, a short video, and earning like $15.
Despite not wasting my whole day on that most sacred of civic duties, I still felt sad because I didn't get a chance to troll the state. Maybe next time.
The end.

$15?
Don't they still pay $5 a day? $15 for 8 hours is still far below minimum wage.

Yeah, it was interesting for a bit, but not worth blowing a day. The alternative is a fine + possible contempt, but I don't know how much they actually follow through with that.

From my understanding it used to be higher here. Only other time I was called I didn't even have to go to the courthouse.

Contempt of court is pure abuse of power by judges. Contempt of court is literally whatever the judge makes up with no due process. It should not be possible at all in a free society. I'm glad Trump pardoned Arpario for it.
Arpaio, he abused prisoners who hadn't even been convincted of crimes
120F heat with no A/C, humiliation, roaches, rotten food, tried to spread disease among prisonersand the courts loved him for it. Then he actually tries to enforce immigration law and they persecute him for it.

Arpaio isn't the federal government.
