The way I download music is primarily through google-fu. Adding terms like 320, blog, rar usually lands me what I want. 4chan's /mu/ has extensive libraries as well that are open and the rebeccablacktech archives are available to search through sharethreads or threads about the current tunes you're listening. It's a hit or miss but I've found some good stuff. Musikchan also exists if you want a music specific imageboard but it's very small.
There are private trackers but I never really liked their elitist attitude and never joined(was never invited either so that too). Dunno who took up the what.cd mantle but apparently it's even more exclusive now.

For individual songs I go to prostopleer. I don't really know of any particularly good sites for albums. Although I did find out this year that archive.org has a music section where people have uploaded rare/hard to obtain albums.

They're still around but the network doesn't have nearly as much selection as it used to since people switched to listening on youtube and using yt-to-mp3 converters
(which nobody should ever, under ANY circumstances whatsoever use). But yeah, LimeWire is now WireShare. The interface is somewhat over-simplified compared to what LW offered though. It's no longer as easy to browse through people's libraries by artist because you have to step back the search params instead of just selecting a different artist from the list.

I need content for my 24 hour Gym workouts. Lots of wot I have are from CD's checked out from my local library. If they do not have wot I want they can get it in 2 days from any library in the county.

It's kind of like the second coming of singingfish.com, except singingfish would display the embedded album art if there was any.
Yesterday I found mp3cc.com which had some stuff prostopleer didn't, but their display options are pretty lacking (no bitrate or file size) and pretty much the entire UI is in Russian only. Luckily all you need to know is what a magnifying glass looks like to be able to search and a down arrow in order to download.
