I worked at a convenience store and they wouldn't let me and got mad when I did once. They said I could be sued if the drunk did something stupid.

It'd probably piss me off too, but I hardly ever drink.
The only time I've experienced it is because of archaic local liquor laws. Basically, you can't buy alcohol on Sunday in this area and some of the surrounding counties.
Thought OP was Bert at first or I probably wouldn't have insinuated they were drinky mcdrinkerson.
