as I owned a genesis before, yes that is a newer re-release model
but hey it works the same as the original one and it is smaller lighter and comes with wireless controller

The one they recently discontinued goes for over $100 on eBay. People are selling them for far beyond the original price tag.
I also haven't seen them on the self of GameStop to be honest.
