Topic: Anybody know what model of computer this is, or where to find the model no. on it?

+Anonymous A9.2 years ago #47,959

Com.jpgI think it's some kind of PC XT, but I can't find a picture that matches. Can anyone help me identify it? All the badges for it are gone, so that's out. It has four drive bays, as opposed to the 5150's usual two drive bays. Thanks in advance for your help.

SYNTAX, WHERE ARE YOU?

I call syntax, cause the old goat knows everything about computers and electronics.....

I've been doing that all morning. Best I can piece together, is that it's some variant of an XT 5160.

Hell NO. I no lots about the IBM 360 cause it was the 1st I had hands on as well as a class in sponsored at work. IBM Punch cards with hanging chads. Prior was hands on with Analog computers. I built several hobby wise. No 35 place accurate calculations YET there were such fun things you could do with them. Oh and such still exists for super duper hi tek Spy from space imaging radar.

BUT I R NOT a computer nerd. Communications - RF IF (Qualcomm made a huge breakthrough tossing out need for IF from a receiver) So transmitters n receivers and all it takes to do all kinds of Radar - Cell systems including Antenna design.

Digital never did turn me on. Does in the wallet cents however cause Analog wood never have done what Digital can. However the latest greatest advancements in cell design which goes beyond CDMA - That is Analog based ODFM. Slap in Coded for CODFM digital and simulate Analog with Digital and you have 4GLTE 5GLTE and soon some infinite variation of of...

As to that box- OP One wood assume you have opened it up and looked at the CPU and other parts but like how about some pics of the guts.

There is a Box out there I had an industrial designer - Design for just a show and a data sheet. Turned on the VP of Engineering for a Mega billion dollar company and he demanded I fly 3000 miles to meet him in his office the following monday. He did not even lift up the box cause then he wood have had a clue the box was empty. It was a concept product with a working breadboard back at the lab. Alas he demanded a change in the spec which wood have made my design worthless NOR could I change the design to match his needs and make any money for company so I said no can do and he being Asian felt insulted. If that Box is still out there and you were to find it - ah but that is another story about many a box made by many a company that was just one of a kind to test out the market at some show OR for a meeting of Marketing people

XT.jpg@previous (Syntax)

Sure, I'll post a few. Everything seems to be working, but I need a CGA monitor to test it. I also think I miss spoke before. I believe this to be a variant of the 788.

Specs:
DTK Turbo PIM motherboard
640k RAM
Intel 8088 @ 4.77 MhZ
Seagate ST-238 HDD 32.0MB
Two 5.5 inch floppy drives
and one empty drive bay, which I'm going to put a 3.25 1.44 MB floppy drive into.

Foxconn.jpgIt also has two Foxconn video cards, which appear to have RAM expansions built in as well. This system also supports color as well as monochrome.

> 640k RAM

Storm came in last nite so no surfing2day - Got up late wayyyyy late from sleep and need some Triple Espresso n such

Well damn like there must be some useful fun thing you can work on - Like 640 K RAM LOLOLOLOLOLOL

I no I shud not laff cause that very first IBM 360 did lots of stuff and had 1/10th the amount of RAM your thing has. You need a monitor and as you can see this thing calculates and has display built in and it is even totally useful for the Blind. Wayyyyyyy more advanced for its tyme.

If I remember correctly the 1st AT from IBM could do a speedy 9.6KB/Sec modem. I think it took some advancements in Modems to allow such

So While I brew up my Triple Espresso and something to chow down on - er what exactly do you plan on doing with this machine? Do you really need such a large paper weight?

The model number will be in the PC's cloaca. Just spread the folds of silicone and you'll find it, in braille.

It can store still images, muh nugget.

@previous (G)

Is that what all those pointy bits under the motherboard are?
I've been using them to scratch myself in various places.

hmm ok, i thought you're talkin about vids
but I guess you'd need to cramp it into 320*240 size 4-bit color to be able to display it on the CGA monitor

·Anonymous A (OP) — 9.2 years ago, 1 minute later, 15 hours after the original post[T] [B] #520,737

It'll be glorious.

Edit: I'm actually just gonna buy a CGA to VGA cable. So cramp into tiny square on HD TV.

Well it's a much easier and cheaper solution. You're very unlikely to find a CGA mon in PC stores now.

There are other ways to turn old phones into working computers and for sure you end up with the speed of a modern CPU and lots n lots of Ram

Since you have spare time and want to play - Have you looked into Raspberry Pi
https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Model-A1-2GHz-64-bit-quad-core/dp/B01CD5VC92

$36 and this thing is amazing

Product description

Built on the latest Broadcom 2837 ARMv8 64 bit processor the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is faster and more powerful than its predecessors. It has improved power management to support more powerful external USB devices and now comes with built-in wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. To take full advantage of the improved power management on the Raspberry Pi 3 and provide support for even more powerful devices on the USB ports, a 2.5A adapter is required. Technical Specifications: - Broadcom BCM2837 64bit ARMv8 QUAD Core 64bit Processor powered Single Board Computer running at 1.2GHz - 1GB RAM - BCM43143 WiFi on board - Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) on board - 40pin extended GPIO - 4 x USB2 ports - 4 pole Stereo output and Composite video port - Full size HDMI - CSI camera port for connecting the Raspberry Pi camera - DSI display port for connecting the Raspberry Pi touch screen display - MicroSD port for loading your operating system and storing data - Upgraded switched Micro USB power source (now supports up to 2.5 Amps)

I have several and I have fired them up for simple tasks but really they are powerful and dirt cheep - Linux ready BUT currently the only Free Win 10 OS is for this device

There's a bunch of alternatives worth looking into nowadays, not to mention raspberry pi clones.
