As far as disasters go be prepared for at least 2 weeks. That's the worst I went through before power and services were restored.
For food you need 1 gallon of water and 2000kcals per person per day. Canned and dry goods, no perishables.
For guns the bare minimum is 1 shotgun and 1 pistol. A 12 gauge 18.5" maverick 88 at ~$190 and a glock 19 ~$550 is going to give you the best value. Anything below is gambling anything above is overpaying.

Just to verify... I shouldn't buy a Kimber or a hi-point? Do I need a rifle?
·Anonymous E — 9.4 years ago, 2 hours later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #509,146
@previous (A)
If by kimber you mean a 1911 then no. It has less rounds, its very picky on what type of ammo it will feed, and by the time you end up "fixing" it you would have spend several thousand dollars. If you want to have .45acp that's fine but get a more modern gun chambered in it. Hi-points on the other hand shoot but they may not cycle reliably and have pretty shit ergonomics. You want something that is reliable and the hi point is not reliable.
My personal opinion, I'm assuming you mean a tactical rifle, is that you don't need it. A good personal pistol can be something discreet that you can carry in your car or person if need be without attracting too much attention while the shotgun can handle close quarters home situations. A rifle is more for ideological purposes like people that see themselves as the modern day minutemen who have the basic tool to come to their country's aid if need be or avid hunters. The average joe isn't really like that.
Take the money you would've spent on a rifle and use it to get some NRA training or simply use it to go to the range.

Not by a longshot but go and actually handle them by yourself. If you shoot enough you'll eventually see the difference. Now, that doesn't mean the 1911 doesn't have amazing ergonomics or that the 45acp is a bad round but it's a platform that shows its age.

You have to lube the barrel with oil and when you rack the slide REALLY use some force on it. The .45 should slide right in.

Sure. Point me to your source, I'll read it.
Look, bud. I've owned both glawk and springfield gats, they both make grate gats, all of springfield/glawks I've owned have functioned flawlessly with maybe 1 in a 1000 ftf/fte. Trying to say XD is outperforming glock in terms of reliability is simply not true, with the exception of the generation 2 glawk fotty or the g36, maybe, those two have had issues. I'm on my second g19 and haven't had any ftf/fte with this one at over 2k rds. The previous one I did with winchester whitebox after changing the coil springs, but then all it took was not using shitty ammo and it was magically fine. Point is the difference between the two in terms of reliability between the two is virtually nil.

Most definitely limp wristing and possibly underpowered ammo. It's not an uncommon report esp. from new shooters or people new to glawk. Glawks are light pieces of tupperware, so it's easy to induce a malfunction by not knowing how to grip it. I'm sure the cop would replace them if he had concerns about reliability with two gats.
Here's an exaggerated example of
limp wristing a glawk. It's easy af to do for new shooters, but also easy af to correct. I would be lying if I said I didn't experience it with my first glockenspiel.

A glock doesnt "misfire".go look up the glock armorer's manual to see why. He either limp wristed or failed to trigger discipline.

SO A 20 YEAR EX-ARMY VETERAN COP IS LIMP WRISTING???!
HAHAHHAA GO SUCK AUSTRIAN COCK.
"After popping off 50 rounds with each pistol, I found that the XD-S and I would consistently fire off tighter groups, but not by much. However, the XD-S won the slowfire contest hands down because the G36 failed to feed more frequently than an anorexic rabbi at an all-you-can-eat chitlin’ buffet."
"Joe brought his G36 to gun-swami Dave Santurri, who diagnosed the problem as defective recoil springs. Recoil springs have been a recurring problem for Glock. So bad was the problem that the company instituted a “Recoil Spring Exchange Program,” which is kinda like a recall but without the embarrassment of admitting that Perfection ain’t all it’s cracked up to be."
So you're wrong... in your own thread.

You can look above and I said the g36 had known issues. It's okay that a nogunz commie thinks he knows more about guns, but it doesn't make you any less wrong. Limp wristing can happen to experienced people too.

The recoil program was for the first of the gen4's. This issue was fixed YEARS ago. Look at the date of your article. It's obvious you just googled and posted the first link that you thought "proved" glocks were defective. I'm not saying it's the only good gun out there, pistols are simple devices tbh, but it's has a good track record for being as prolific as it is. It's like the meme about them being grenades, when you dig deeper you find that it's because people were using vastly overpowered loads and usually on a model chambered in other than a 9mm.

One lemon even doesn't change anything, and I believe he had issues with the G36, for sure. You were still most definitely limp wristing after experiencing it with two guns, even if one was a g36. All that means is you aren't familiar with the weapon. Nbd.
Glawks and xd is basically apples to apples. It comes down to personal preference and the performance/reliability difference is negligible.
As for the recoil spring, they changed the design. Springfield had to recall the XDs. Big deal.
You have yet to back up your original claim beyond your personal anecdote and one guys issue with the g36. You limp wristing and one lemon isn't much of an argument. :\

Word.
It's not uncommon for manufacturers to have issues with the first run of things.
Just like the Springfield XDs having to be recalled. Shit happens.
I haven't seen anything to suggest XD is more reliable than glock. I've carried an XD too and it was solid, but I prefer the g19 and g26. W/e, it's just personal preference in the end.
