@previous (E)My brain is so fried - Don't know if you know what a Cell phone base station bunker is? One view of it and it's super cramped packed with Verizon Sprint AT&T T-Mobile and some Gov stuff and City owned communications stuff so its packed beyond normal and I have it loaded with breadboards now held tight with masking tape and covered with cardboard box to keep techs from the other companies from crushing my hardware while they drag in test equipment to do what they do - Been on my back with clip leads and spectrum analyzer doing what I do for about 6 hours today and mostly on my back on the floor or on my side

7.2 Handle Content
With such a large importance placed on ones choice of handles in a virtual community, choosing a handle is probably the single most important aspect of creating an on-line identity. "Many people regard their nicknames with the utmost importance, and much thought is put into their creation" (Bechar 1995). Often though, when people first enter a virtual community, they are not prepared for the importance of their handle choice. It is not until later that a user will grasp the importance a handle plays in determining one's on-line identity. Many times people will initially try out or cycle through a few different handles in an attempt to 'find' themselves on-line. Some users will even experiment with multiple identities using multiple handles. However, once a user has found the handle that most represents what they want to display in an on-line identity, they prefer to consistently use their chosen handle, and can become quite protective of it.
One fascinating aspect of CMC systems is the potential for exploring different genders. The fact that CMC systems are experienced in virtual space is ideal for users to explore aspects of another gender, an opportunity that is rarely taken in real life. While external physical attributes such has hair or eye color are relatively easy to change in real life, changing ones gender is a much more involved process. CMC systems nullify our physical existence, making gender swapping as simple as using a gender specific handle.
The choice of a user's displayed on-line gender is for some users of great importance and consideration, while for others it is quite simple (Curtis, 1992). As in real life, the displayed gender of a handle can be cause for increased attention, harassment, and even dispute.
