Please tell me Microsoft aren't assholes like this.

Why target Steam? So people can play your shitty system?

Wait, why's there a tiny naked man with a rat's head doing a handstand in the background?

Cathy just configure a PC to Linux. Probably good deals at thrift stores or ebay.

Linux doesnt support 90% of the gaems, including countless AAA titles

Maybe if people shift away because of Microshit, AAA titles will start putting more effort into developing Linux compatibility.

Maaaaaybe, arent gonna happen coz Windows is braindead-compatible, and the majority of computer users are braindead.

It doesn't take a brain to run Ubuntu. I mean, shit I did it for 5 years.

not when you have to type cmd line to make sth run becoz their UI is fucked up or simply fail to show

Ubuntu doesn't really require that very often in my experience. My png utilities did, but that's the same on Windows because they're not written to have a UI.

Also ever have a update failure coz internet cut down mid-way and the whole machine fail to boot up and no recovery mode or shit leading me having to use a Windows PC to dl the install image again to reinstall the whole thing

I did have an update failure once, but it was because I ran out of drive space lol
I decided to just get a new hard drive and install the new version from scratch instead of updating.

Converting to Ubuntu will force you to drop out of college though.

@495,231 (Nugget Springroll !Uvm54ORbmo)

This. It'll only get worse with the 'app whore'/'jewgold play' generations too.

I didn't drop out though...

Ugh fuck apps and DLC and free2play and unfinished releases and etc.

What? That's insane. By chance do you use a PC made by someone besides Dell?

> Ugh fuck apps and DLC and free2play and unfinished releases and etc.

The disease will continue it's dark tide, spreading well beyond vidya gaems, going unchecked and untamed. Until it ultimately forces humanity into a new digital dark age of soft paywalls and freemium products... only John McAfee could've saved us, but now he can't be bothered due to bathsalts, hookers, and being unfairly shat on by the Libertarian party.

Yeah, HP/Compaq. It was actually much easier to set up Ubuntu that it was to set up Windows. I never did manage to get the wifi working in Windows.

Oh, well maybe it's only an issue that forces you to drop out if you're using Dell products?

I haven't had many networking/wifi woes w/ either/or in recent memory... but now I probably will after saying that and having a new modem arriving this week.

Mind you, these issues were with computers made ca. 2003 and 2006 and using fresh installs of XP.

Well I can attest to having issues with being ambushed into attempts at 'fixing' family and friends old PC woes... all with Win. Most of them were just viri (Where is John McAfee when we need him most?) issues, but connectivity and compatibility issues sprang up too.

I wasted hours trying to bring back to life an early aughts PC and it was for fuckall. Didn't matter if it was tethered, wireless, wtfe, it just wasn't going to do it, and ofc it'd crash after 5 min anyway.

Attempted to start from scratch, popped the battery out of the motherboard, installed slightly better RAM, tried different salvaged (and a new) hard drives, etc. It's not like I'm A+ certified or anything, I just googlefued this nonsense.

Even tried the switch to PuppyLinux since that had been a grate OS and utility in general for older PCs in the past, but that was one of the few cases where I decided it was too fucked to be saved. I forget what the problem was in the end, but IIRC there was plenty of dust and cat hair inside the case, it'd been used for years, etc, but I didn't actually see anything blown/leaking/fried on the motherboard, and after the debris was removed the fan was fine, the power unit worked fine, fuck if I know.

It had been her old work PC before she retired and I knew it was a PoS when they bought it from their local PC repair guy and apparent door to door used PC salesman in Bumfuck, FL... so when this took place it was unsurprisingly still a PoS.

Ended up just shelling out for a refurbed Lenovo in that scenario, but it was just a solitaire and email machine for her. I'm sure some anon here could've fixed it, but at that point it no longer seemed worth my time to continue failing/flailing w/ it.
