Topic: Americans do not use the European dating format...
+Catherine !TGirlYJKXM — 10 years ago #45,105
So why do they use it every Fourth of July?

What do you mean?

Yeah, I got the point cat was trying to make. Just initially taught it be some gay comparison between U.S. and euro dating etiquette. Still if Europe is so great, why are they voting for separation?

@493,570 (D)
Why even arrange the date in a pyramid, what the fuck?
July 4, 2016 still reads better than 4 July 2016. The latter looks like the number will fly off in the wind. Plus it'll make you feel like a hipster saying, "The Fourth of July in Twenty-Sixteen the year of our Lord, M'lady."

But Britain does not use the year-month-day format.
+Anonymous G — 10 years ago, 3 minutes later, 22 hours after the original post[T] [B] #493,621
they don't

Clearly many people missed my attempt at a joke.
"The Fourth of July" is written in the European dating format. October 31st would be said as the 31st of October, for example.
While many promotions in the U.S. have used July 4th, many still seem to call the holiday the 4th of July.

@493,620 (FuckAlms !vX8K53rFBI)
No because why would you put the least relevant (because it doesn't change often, so you would just remember it) bit first

year-month-day is sorted correctly by computers without any need for complicated string-is-actually-a-date-so-sort-it-differently-based-on-locale-settings code

What's wrong with the latter option? Because for everything else ddmmyy is better. Also no one stores dates in file names
