A wind scorpion (aka Vinegaroon; called that because they stink like vinegar, when you smash them), they're non-venomous predatory arachnids. They're everywhere early in the mornings, during the summer months. Yes, it can be pretty surprising to see one, if you did not know it was there. Especially since they can get to be about 3-5 inches long.
