Topic: I cannot take Episode VII of Star Wars seriously.
+Catherine !TGirlYJKXM — 10.1 years ago #44,846
I know this post will get loads of "autism" replies, but I just felt like I had to state this.
Upon first seeing Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, I thought it was a pretty well-made Star Wars movie which brought back the excitement of the original trilogy. This was before everyone started complaining about it copying the original trilogy's formula which at this point I cannot lie and say it didn't. It makes me feel sad that there doesn't seem to be anything new under the sun for this franchise if that leaked working title for Episode VIII has merit.
But while I was watching this film even during the first viewing, it felt as if it were a standalone Sci-Fi flick unattached from any brand labels. This is great, but I feel as if it may never truly satisfy one's inch for something Star Wars.
This is probably why I could never get into the Knights of the Old Republic era video games. It felt too distant from the source.
Anyways, TL:DR, blog status updated.

Just read the books or follow Dash Rendar, man.

isn't that why they are making like a side-series of films?

I doubt it, that is probably more to cash in on the success of the franchise, but Rogue One does feel like Star Wars and apparently ends just 10 minutes before the events of A New Hope.

I don't recognize that episode of Star Track. Is that the one where Lucas George plays Chewtobacco?

No, you're thinking of the episode where the Vulcan who goes by the name "The Doctor" traveled to Tatooine where he got into some trouble with Cylons.

OK good. I got some flack via mail and otherwise for going off at you for supporting Frank and I really blew up at you in a reply. Someone I respect said: Don't you think you have gone to far and I said NO - However that person - Hummmm best not say anymore until I discuss this with them - at the time I was in a rush as I am now to bug out for the evening so I did not probe something I need to probe. Cryptic but they will read this and get back to me about this added message.
OK have a couple of more things to do b4 shower and then its Sat night out on the town
PS I really can't ask you to apologize re the positive things you said about Frank - I am no one to tell anyone how to feel about another person - HOWEVER!!
We will leave it at that for now
C ya

Pretty sure you're talking about an episode of Dr Phillip McWho.

Didn't you kind of attack squeegee for saying the same thing?

I felt upset with squeegee for a different reason, not this really.

Pretty much the entire film industry seems to be suffering from this.

Right, they just keep rehashing the same things.

Or writing open-ended sequels to keep drawing out a profitable franchise, or remaking old classics with fancy new cg effects.

Yeah, that too. They are afraid to take risks, and just keep making what they know will make money.

Is there any art form that hasn't been ruined by money?

Unfortunately, no. I guess memes, maybe. Some people make grate memes, but nobody is giving them one red center for it.

No, memes are dead too. 'Epic' started getting used in commercials and ads a few years ago, and some fast food chain used 'that feeling when' along with image macro text in a commercial last year.

I guess that truly there is no art form that can escape money's grasp.
That's really sad, considering how valued artists/musicians/etc. were in the previous centuries.
